2008 V10 rough idle, missing issue solved...

...hopefully that is. The service department said that a loose injector wire was the culprit. The symptoms were rought idle, and the truck would start shuttering at highway speeds that almost felt like bed hop. It also felt like the truck was underpowered, and I'm hoping that it might have effected the mpg a little as the first 100 miles has shown an average of 9.2 mpg.

The dealer said that they have seen a few of these now, so I thought I'd post this up in case anybody has similar issues with their trucks. It was bad enough to set off the check engine light.

If you have the 4:30 rear you can expect the mileage to be 9-10 city and 11-13 hwy. It could be a bit more than that, but only by about a mile or two.

Keep us posted! and congrats on getting that beast fixed!!

Don't listen to that smokepole....be glad you got what you got, don't let these 'false gods' lead you astray from the benefits of the tried and true industrial smooth running powerplant as the 6.8L 3V V10. You won't be sorry - those black maskin' smoke hogs are just jealous

Enjoy your truck man!

Black smoke where?! Gas prices arent an issue to most people that can afford the new PSD. Yes be stoked on your new truck but man...11-14 mpg? Thats harsh. At least diesels get like 16-18 mpg's. And sounds damn cool doing it. I find myself turning off my radio and just listening to the twin turboes on the road. Love it. Oh yea....deisel #2....4.05 a gallon out here.

Haha - I knew someone would retort!

True, but slap on a supercharger on the V10 (some folks have!) and not only do you get great power, but that wonderful 'bad-a%% power' sound too!

But 05RoushMarkLT mentioned he won't do any such thing (yet )

He'll just have to enjoy that smooth, quiet, reliable gasser

My dealer said his 6.4L was getting 11-12mpg in town. I couldn't justify paying an extra $7000 for the diesel when all I tow is the occasional 7X14 enclosed trailer full of junk and my boat. The V-10 has all the torque I need, and gas is about 40 cents a gallon cheaper, so even if I had 4 mpg better, a fill up of 30 gallons of diesel would get me 420 miles at 14mpg vs. 300 miles at 10mpg for the V-10.

Cost to fill up would be at 3.09 per gallon for gas $92.70 so roughly 31 cents a mile. Diesel would cost me $104.70 to fill up which is 25 cents per mile.

At 15,000 miles per year, gas would cost $4635.00 and diesel would cost $3739.30. I'd spend $895.70 extra every 15,000 miles on gas vs. diesel. It would take 7.82 years to recoup the cost of the diesel motor if gas was the only factor.

Those that now me realize that I have never owned a truck more than 3 or 4 years, so I'd never recoup those costs, although I might have to hang on to this truck a little longer since I'm hooking it up.

Also, my supercharger whine will put any stock turbo diesel whine to shame. You don't have to turn the radio down to hear it. Once the warranty gets a little closer to wearing out, I might consider a supercharger on the V-10. No time soon though.

Do you do math for Al Gore??? lol Actually those numbers are all true with the exception that you left off the part about the diesel having a better resale value at the end...easily $4K-$5K more. So it would really be a "cost" of $2K you need to figure in to your equation not the full $7K. So in reality you could very easily recoupe the cost of the PSD in 2-3 Years.

The guy tries to help out fellow Superduty owners with a possible issue and it turns into a gasser vs. diesel pissing match......
