Here's an idea, let me know what u think...

I was thinking about doing this (and I design these in my head all of the time, I just need opinions): buying a 2005-2007 F250 SuperCab shortbed with the 5.4L and an auto tranny.

Heres the deal, there is a gas crisis and this may get expensive just to drive this truck, but here goes, and I want you guys to tell me if this may be a bad idea given that the truck will have the 5.4L V8. I also want to know what mods that I should do to the truck (as in motor and intake and things like that).

I want to take that truck, lift it 6 inches and put 35-inch BFG AT's on it and maybe a front prerunner light bar. I know, it doesent seem very radical, but I like a bit of a plain 4x4/prerunner look, so somehow I will drop it in the back an inch or two.

So, heres the nitty gritty: what kind of mpgs should I expect if I am light on the foot? I really dont expect much of a change. What are the mods that I can do to it? Name some brands such as a K&N intake, flowmaster exhaust, diablo tuner. If I have to regear, what should I regear to? Where are the charts that let me know?

I dont expect much good gas mileage on this truck, but do you guys think that 16 mpgs is possible on the highway? You would know better than me.

I hope I can get more answers over here. I know that my grandfathers '03 5.4 gets around 14 empty with 265s. What I want to do here is put on 35's. But my grandfather also has the heaviest foot Ive ever seen-and he loves to show off what his truck can do.

Depending on rear ratio and the added weight of the tires - I'm guessing 14mpg at best.

it sure won't set the world on fire. the 5.4 with 35s, i would guess would not even get the mileage of the v-10 with 35s......i had a f-150 with the 5.4, a light foot, and could barely get 16 mpg. you must have a really light foot.

I seriously doubt you'll see 16mpg with a 5.4L in a Superduty. The truck is just too heavy for the engine. All my past research, when I considered the engine in a Superduty, pointed at about 14 at best. I'd consider the V-10 first. It sucks fuel idling and in winter with warm-ups, but overall, I'll bet you'll see the same or better mileage with much more power when needed. Our V-10 Excursion pulled 16 on the highway all day long with cruise set, but there is something about the diesels and V-10's in Excursions that always seem to get a wee bit better economy over the trucks.

The only way I'd see a 5.4l in the F250 is with a regular cab and even then, it'd be like the 4.2l in the regular cab long bed. It'd be no race winner.

Thats probably because it isnt about a DIESEL truck. Hence, TheDieselStop would not provide many answers...

Well, yeah I got that. But the site for F150s got more answers then the diesel site that was for Super Duties.

I posted it in the gas section too.

Was that one of those comments that you felt compelled to post after a really hard day at work and a few hours at the bar?

Think things through before posting. Me posting that here was pretty much exactly the same as me posting it in the "diesel" truck forum.

Comments like that dont help.
