To Dual or Not?

I've just got my first SuperDuty ('06 350 Crew Long bed PSD), and I've always had an exhaust done on all my trucks. I'm wanting to do away with the muffler, but I can't decide if I want to dual it out or not. So, I'm looking for ideas. Most I'm seeing have one tail pipe in the factory location. And I don't want the stacks some are getting now.

If I get the MBRP muffler delete pipe, will I have to cut the muffler out from the tail pipe? I don't see a joint between the muffler and tail pipe, but I didn't look close. Also, it looks like the tail pipe comes out of the muffler higher than the inlet. Will it clamp up fine, or will I need to move it?

Thanks for any ideas.

Don't need dual exhaust on a diesel...just do 4" or 5" straight pipe with a 6" tip.

x2

I've even heard its better to do a larger single straight pipe on a gasser too. Something with the gas velocities or something...

Thanks! Looks like I'll do the single.

Has anyone used the MBRP muffler delete pipe?

Yep. Duals can be a bit louder, but without question singles flow better. Im planning on ordering the MBRP delete pipe for my MBRP system, but their mufflers are by no means quiet - straight shot through, 4" the whole way.

I was told not to do anything to the exhaust on the 06 PSD. Has something to do with the back pressure sensor...you will eat more diesel since there is less pressure....etc. Not sure I buy it , but I was looking at Cat back myself until he talked me out of it.

Well, that figures.... I guess if I do anything, it will be a muffler delete pipe. That way, I can undo it if it decides to drink too much.

I wouldn't take my word for it, I tried to remember and translate what he said, I would call your local Ford Service Center, ask to talk to a PSD Tech and get his opinion.

Or better yet, call Eric at ID and get their opinion. If you programed the PCM you could probably control that better than the stock strategy.

With a muffler delete from MBRP, that pipe is a replacement for their FOUR inch exhaust system. Stock is 3.5 inches, and the muffler is welded in...so, you would need the MBRP cat back with a muffler delete.

You do know that stacks are gonna be LOUD in the cab. One of the reasons I decided to skip doing the stacks even though I had all the parts.
