New to the turbo diesel

I have my F150 which over the years, I've learned from top to bottom.

That is in storage and I'm driving a 2001 Ford F250 diesel 4x4. It has oversized tires and I have a programmer for it. I'm running the street program. There is an intake and the exhaust has been done.

I'm getting 13-14 mpg. Is that normal?
What else can be done to improve gas mileage?
Any tips or advice?
Thanks,
Christine

Didn't you ask this question a few months back?

I can't answer if what you're getting is good or not since I can't find any info on your truck. What gears, what tire size, what wheel size, slushbox or manual, driving habits, city or highway driving, fuel type, time since last fuel filter change, etc. These trucks range from 10mpg up to almost 20. I would also call your method of calculating mileage into question. Its not just dump fuel in the tank and divide by mileage kind of deal.

I'd imagine you're getting crappy gas mileage on a diesel truck. Fuel mileage might be better way to measure it.

I gave you suggestions on what to do with the truck back in your last thread. None of that has changed so I'd start there. Otherwise lose the big tires, thats killing you.

I'd say your mileage sucks, but then I see that you're in So Cal, where everybody drives like a drag racer and does 85 on the freeway, so 14 MPG is normal for that type of driving. Slow down to 2000 RPM/70ish MPH and you'll see much better mileage. What type of intake, exhaust and programmer is it running?

I'm used to driving my V6 lifted so I keep my foot out of it on this truck. I have the SCT programmer just running the street program that's on it. My other truck has a chip so I don't know a thing about these programmers yet. The intake is just an AEM Brute Force. I don't know the brand of exhaust but it has a 4" pipe. The tires are 315 70/17 which is a size or 2 over OEM. I can't find the original gear ratio, but it's still OEM.

This used to be Manix's truck for SEMA back in 2001. They had it all dressed up with all their off road accessories. He bought it from them and had no idea what was done to it.

My other truck has the works...gears, chip, intake, exhaust...the list goes on and I'm running 37" tires. I still get 13-16 mpg. Now I have to learn an entirely new truck.

Well, 14 MPG isn't *bad* for a truck of that size, especially if you're doing city driving. I'm guessing it has 3.73 gears...

i recently got an 03 with a 6.0. That mileage doesn't sound terrible if your driving it kind of hard but you should be able to get higher than that. Im pretty sure the 7.3s get better gas mileage in general. i would check the usual stuff like the air filter fuel filter etc. I have a hard time keeping my foot off of it but if im not towing and keep the rpms around 2000 I can get 16 around the city with just exhaust and adding diesel kleen every time i fill up. the additive seems to add about 1-2mpg. programmers seem to add a decent amount of mileage if you keep your foot off of it but can do the opposite if you drive like a maniac
