Hard to start diesel in the cold

When i start my 350 for the first minute or so the idle is extremely rough, it's loud and it seems like it's not hitting on all cylinders. Any ideas?

Do you plug it in at night? Are you waiting for the wait to start light to go off or is not even coming on? The only time my truck does this is when I dont plug it in at night or it sits all day at work and its below zero.

If he didn't have a wait to start light at all then the truck would never start. No wait to start light = no PCM = no injectors firing.

The truck idling rough like that is normal in cold temps. The glow plugs are probably either nonfunctional or working very poorly so the cylinders aren't warming up the way they ideally should. When you start at cold temps without glow plugs you are essentially not starting on all cylinders. The cylinders have to warm up enough to be able to ignite the fuel during compression.

forgot plug...

when i forget to plug mine in and teperatures are below 25 i have a very unhappy diesel. one of the things a friend of mine told me to do is glow plug it 2-4 times before actually turning the ignition all the way to start, it definitely has helped, if it gets into the teens though forget it : (
