Which tires?

My 2001 F-250 Super Duty needs new tires.

Currently, it has 285/75 R-16 tires.

I cannot find what the stock or recommended tire size is for this truck.

Anyone know?

Also, would a 265/75 R-16 be a good match?

265/75/16 is the wimpy stock size. 285/75/16 is a good upgrade size, biggest you can really fit on the factory rims. I currently have BFG All Terrain's on my truck. They're not bad. Tread wear is awesome. They trap too many rocks for my tastes though. Next set of tires will be a set of BFG Mud Terrain KM2s.

I would question the tire size depending what engine/trans/gear ratio it has. My truck handles the same size tire as yours just fine, but my dads truck (same setup) with a 5.4L has its hands full with 265s. I guess it all comes down to if you feel the power it has now is adequate.

As for new tires I'd highly suggest you look at the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I love mine, and so far show almost no wear in 15k. They are also alot cheaper than BFGs, though I did love the BFG ATs on my dads old F150. I just didn't like the price tag of them when I looked at a set for my F250.

Dang its hard to type with part of a finger missing.

i love the BFG's on my F-150, but they will sling rocks at times. if you're keeping the tire narrow, you won't have to worry about the rocks hitting the fenders, though. they will just bounce around in the inner fender liner, harmless really.

the nitto terra grapplers seem to be getting excellent reviews, too. to me, it seems to be more of a street friendly tire than the BFG A/T. my buddy loves his set.

I will add another vote for the BFG ATKO's. I have had mine for almost a year now and they are wearing like iron. As mentioned above they like to sling rocks at the under side or your truck.

Toyo Open Country M/T's are always a good choice too!

How did you lose part of a finger? Did I miss something?

Incident with a vegetable cutter last night took 1/4" of meat off the end. I got a nice tour of the ER last night. I'll put up a pic when I change the wrapping tonight for ya

I'm thinking about changing my screen name to stumpy.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I know there's not much they can do for losing the tip of a finger. I cut about 1/4" to 1/3" off the tip of my middle finger on my left hand a few years back, and you could see the bone. I was working at a plastic film plant and was cutting down a scrap roll with a utility knife. I laid my left hand up on the rold to hold it still and WHACK! I still have a shiny spot on the end of that finger that continues to get a little smaller every year. It's still very sensitive too.

I couldn't really see the bone, but there was enough blood that you couldn't see much. Right now I have little to no feeling in that finger. The worst part about this is that I work on equipment all day at work so that obviously aggrivates it all day.
