Gas to a Diesel??

Was thinking of converting my 2003 F-250 5.4L V8 superduty and possibly putting a 7.3L in it. What would have to be changed other than motor and wiring. Has anybody done this??
Thanks, Dan

Man that would be a major under taking IF it is possible.

You would need the computer that goes with the 7.3L if it has one. A second battery. Different fuel filters, cat converter. Motor mounts...I'm sure there is more. Would be cheaper and money ahead to trade/sell it and BUY a diesel truck.

if a 7.3 can be swapped into a bronco, it can be done... but from what i've read/heard, its cheaper/easier to swap in a 12V cummins than a powerstroke... and its even cheaper and easier to buy a diesel truck... its not worth the coin to do a gas-diesel swap when there's all kinds of great deals out there

just get a truck with a 7.3L already in it. It will be a major cost to convert.

It could be done... But much easier and cheaper to buy a different truck.

Plan on about $10k to do the swap if you do alot of the work yourself. You are pretty much changing everything from the engine back to the axles, with the exception of the transfer case. If you wanted to convert to diesel a 12V Cummins would be marginally cheaper ($5-8k) depending what trans you want to run and how good you are at finding deals. The big upside is that the wiring portion would be much simpler and its a stronger engine.

Getting a 12v Cummins would be the best choice ever. They provide the BEST fuel economy plus tunable to sickening power.

what does it matter cummins isnt made by dodge and powerstroke isnt made by ford. the cummins engine in a ford truck would be the ideal set up. best of both worlds imo. besides i would rather have a cummins engine than an international engine alot easier and simpiler to work on.

How about ford's new ecoboost 3.5 diesel engine. It is currently being use in Ford's f150 and Taurus. I have a 2002 f150 with 5.4 v8 engine and is thinking of a gas to diesel swap as well. Does anybody know what kind of problem I will encounter if I'll do this swap? Any information or suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you.

Facepalm. #1, the Eco-boost is gas, not diesel. #2, that swap would require lots and lots of electronics, and probably somewhere around $20k if you did all of the work yourself. The engine relies very heavily on computers, which would be the hardest problem with the swap.

Please visit this website to see that Ford's new Ecoboost 3.5 lists unleaded regular as the recommended fuel

Just because it's direct injection doesn't mean it's a diesel...
