There is no valve adjusting to be done I would go with the PSD it has alot better drive line I have herd that the dodge has a really week tranny..And plus the ford comes with a 100k war. on the motor.. Try to get a 96 or a 97 they raised the HP to 215 from the 210 and if you put a chip in you will have the same or more power than the new ones...hope this helps
my dad has a 96 PSD with 50K and has not been in the shop yet..

Really, the cummins is a good engine. You didn't state whether your getting a manual or a automatic. Early Psd's had/have so much power they'd eat a E40d. I would suggest a manual for a 94.5-97. I think Ford uses a better tranny (4R100) now, which is a whole lot better. I have only heard of a few cases where Dodge trannys are eaten by the cummins. We have several 94.5-97 PSD's that are shop/work trucks, most all are manuals, and have been good engines. I honestly think the 96-97's have a bit more power than the new ones. Maybe its because of the tranny? Good luck!

Question Buying a used turbo diesel...

I'm thinking about buying a '95-'97 F250 PSD
extended cab 4x4. I'm also considering a '95-'97 Dodge Cummins. I'm leaning towards the PSD because the 12 valve Cummins requires
valve adjustments every 48K. Does the PSD need valve adjustments, if so how often?
Are there any other maintenance requirements other than fluid and filter changes?
Thanks!!!

Go with the PSD. More overall power.

Thumbs up

Another place to get some really great info on the diesel is www.ford-diesel.com They can probably even give you info on the cummins. Have you been able to find any trucks that you like and how much ($$$) are they running??? I too agree w/the part about getting a manual over the automatic but if you don't like/drive them then the point is moot. Good luck w/your search and let us know what you end up with.
