v-10 owners! I need your input!

Ok, so Im new to the v-10. I just picked up a 2001 f350 supercab 4x4 w the v-10 and got one hell of a deal on it! SO far I love it. The v10 has tons of power and torque. ANd the gas mileage is what I expected. Ive filled it up once so far and went about 240 miles before the light came on and between highway and city I averaged about 10.9 mpg. Not quite what I got in my f150 but its to be expected. My question is has anyone made any mods to their trucks that will better the mileage at all?

Lower gearing, lighter-weight tires, more air pressure in tires, and possibly a tuner with an economy tune.

I wonder what mine gets. Its a 2006 F350 regular cab 4x4 V10 with 430 gears. I drive it back and forth to work everyday, but its only 9 miles each way.

With that kind of driving, I'd guess you are probably getting about 8 mpg.

Actually the V-10 is a great daily driver. I don't care about gas mileage so it doesn't bother me. Aside from what FreekyFX4 said, the best 'mod' or 'tuner' is regulation of the right foot

The only way it's not a good daily driver is if the gas mileage is bothering you. If that's the case, you would probably be best served by getting a small beater car with a 4 banger for your commute and use the truck only when you need a truck.

Some people have replaced the Y-pipe. It's about a $100 mod if you can weld.

Rumors say you get about 1-1.5 MPG by replacing it with a bigger one. But make sure you buy a thick one to avoid engine flutter.

Lots of good ideas here. Don't listen to the people who say that the 6.8 isn't a good daily driver. They have no idea what they are talking about. Enjoy your truck, do whatever you want with it, and don't listen to the haters.
