Not buying the F350, back to looking

I was able to take a good look at the 02 F350 XLT, 4X4, SC DRW 7.3L that I was wanting to get. But after crawling under the truck I called the dealer and told him that I wasn't interested anymore. Both inner rocker panels were rusted, and I refuse to deal with a truck that is having rusting issues. I called a buddy that owns a body shop and told him what I had found, and he said it would be around $2000 to cut out, replace and paint the rockers on a SC. Also the upper ball joints were out of the frontend, both tires were leaning inward badly. So there is another $800 to have the upper and lower ball joints replaced and to get the truck aligned.

So it looks like I am back to looking for another truck. This time I think I am going to wait until spring to try and sell my truck out right. Then if I do sell it I will have one of my buddys in Texas look for a low mileage 7.3L for me, that way it should be pretty much totally rust free.

This just sucks! I was really looking forward to getting the F350.. Oh well things happen for a reason I guess.

They are out there, but its tough, we found a 02 F350 XLT, SC, DRW, 4X4 7.3L with 53000 miles about 3 months ago with out a spec of rust on it. My dad bought that one, but now that I am looking for one for myself I can find anything.

Let me know too. There are lots of nice rust-free 7.3L Super Duty's here in Tennessee too. Especially with all the snow-free winters we have had lately.

I know, at that point in time I wasn't really in the market for a different truck, plus "the boss" wasn't for it either.

We talked about it last night, and I want to sell my 04 first before buying another truck. So I am going to put our truck up for sale and see what happens. Once my 04 sells we are going to be looking for crewcab, shortbox (but will consider a long box only if it is a dually) has to be a 7.3L and 4wd, also preferably a lariat,. Looking at around the 17-18000 range as our max price, I just cant justify spending any more than that when it will only get 3000 miles a year or so on it.

The only reason that I was interested in the 02 that was a super cab was because I was going to be able to trade even up for it, and only has 73000 miles.

if you do a trade, the tax savings will help tremendously so don't blow off trading as an option.

That was the exact reason that I was so interested in the 02 F350, it would have been an even up trade so I wouldn't have to pay anything in sales tax. But the problem is finding a clean, rust free, low miles 7.3L at the dealers around here. All the 7.3L's that I have found have either had low miles and been beat to crap---clean and rust free but have 150,000+ miles--- or they have been priced way too high. I got a call from a dealership today that said they had just gotten a 02 F250 4X4 lariat, CC, SB, with 55000 miles in, it was priced at $22,500. When I was there a couple weeks ago they were going to give me $14,000 for my 04, so that means $8500 to boot to get into the F250 they have. I don't think so, thats not even close to worth it for me, if it was 3500 or even 4500 I would think about it.

Wait until diesel goes back up to 4.99/gal and then buy one. I did this with the one I am driving now and I can get out of it after a year with out losing any money on it.
