Please bear with me

First SD post so hang with me.... I'm looking at a 06 F250 4x4 Lariat FX4 6.0 TD with 6 in lift and 36's 38000 miles on the clock, sun roof ect.... NADA says 34XXX tops 29XXX next step down

I HAVE a 08 F150 FX4 Screw 5.4, 20's, Saleen exhaust, custom grille, spray in liner, tonneau, intake, custom Blue LED interior lights, rear DVD and ONLY 8,000 on the clock. NADA 34XXX tops. The S/D has some paint flaws on the nose, I'm sure I will have them fix..... I own a 24ft Bayliner and was wondering what is the good and bad of the 6.0 S/D what are the weak spots on the truck... I know the F150 has the tranny and the plug issues (I got the 100,000 warr) For most of my driving I am around town, some freeway, and here and there towing (boat) what sorta MPG will the S/D get under normal cond. Will it get better MPG than my F150 to off set the price of the fuel cost? Any info would be a nice help... thanks in advance.

I LOVE my 06 350. I get about 19 mpg on the highway. and it depends what your 'around town' is like because that can be the killer in mpg. the reason being its a big a heave truck that your diesels gotta get moving every time you stop. but there is minimal engine braking which is why they are good on the highway. now me i do both local and highway and even if i got 10 mpg i would still not go back to my f150

drove it today

I was surprised, it's got 37" graplers on 20" chrome wheels... I was impressed on how it drove and handled the bumps on the freeway. bump steer was better than my F150..... it's got a fabtech lift, with the swaybar spacers, and the camberg swaybar links... factory exhaust, engine is clean as is the underside of the truck... dosen't look to have been abused. few items on the inside that need attention....two long scratches in the center seat in the back, and the rear center seat belt wont retract. Has two batteries

Unless you've torn down the engine you really have no clue. The previous owner could have run a crappy programmer, driven the truck like crazy, and all the damage would be internal to the engine. It may drive fine now but it could be a ticking time bomb. Personally any 6leaker truck that has been modified in any way I would run away from faster than normal. Most people who will lift a truck can't leave the engine alone.

Does it have a twin turbo on it?

That was good!

I agree with them man, I bought my truck from a 76 year old guy cause it was mostly stock. Modded trucks scare me esp lifted ones. If you don't do it yourself, you have no idea how it was set-up, maintained, and the condition of an already known motor that has had its fair share of issues. I would walk away and find a nice stock one to be honest.

a lil more info

I talked with a friend that works in the parts dept...gave her the VIN off the truck and she finds that they JUST replaced the steering gear box, also noted in the file was that it needs inner and outter tie rods, but they weren't going to replace them, just selling it AS/IS for 34K !!!

and the warr will run out in Oct 2011... and unless I get a ext warr from a outside source, i'll be footing the bill for everything after that!

Looks like new blue is getting to stick around in the stables for a while longer!

I'm still trying to figure out who would even CONSIDER a used truck with a 6.0L for $34k. Heck I wouldn't want expect to pay much more than that for a NEW truck regardless of the engine. Really an 06 with 38k on it SHOULD book out at $27k max.

Used diesel truck prices are insane right now. Heck I've been looking at 92-97 3/4 ton trucks to do my Cummins swap on, and I've seen alot going for $10k with 150-200k miles on them If you really want a diesel wait until the price of fuel spikes again and you'll be able to pick up one for a fraction of what they're selling for now. All the sheeple out there can't learn to look at the long term, its all the right here right now.

LOL, well that guy is just an idiot, or senile seeing as how he's of retirement age.

The 7.3L was a good engine, but theres no way a stock truck that was worth $32k new is worth $54k now with 45k miles on it . Though I wonder if his wife told him to sell the truck and he put it up for that ridiculous price and said "But honey I tried to sell it. Nobody would even come look at it."

Maybe I should email him.
