Cold Start ?

Cold Start ?
I just bought a 2005 6.0 . It started rough at the dealer but I thought it was because it has not started in a week maybe . It still starts rough , settles after warming and idles perfect . I turned the key twice tonight (30 degrees) to try to warm up the glowplugs twice ??? but it still started it rough .
Any advise ?

It will idle a little rough when you first start it..the injectors are ran by high pressure oil and when it is cold the oil is thick and takes a few seconds to get the oil flowing properly. make sure you plug it in when it is cold to help it start eaiser. If it still does this while it is plugged up you might want to get it checked out. I think there are some flashes for the FICM that you can get at the stealership that will help this.

You do know that 911 doesn't do anything to prevent gelling, its only for gelled fuel. Read the bottle, it states it right on it. You need the white powerservice to prevent gelling.
If its running rough for up to 30 seconds when its that cold its normal, but if not there may very well be something wrong with the truck. We have 2 07 trucks at work (one an F250, the other an F550). The 250 starts and idles just fine in cold temps, but the F550 does not. I had it in Iowa late this year and anything under 10*F and it would barely start if I didn't plug it in overnight. After it started it would only run on a few cylinders for 5-10 min until it warmed up enough. Its currently at Ford getting worked on for that as well as other issues. Hopefully I'll know what was wrong soon. My old 7.3L will start in those temps and run rough for only a few seconds before it evens out. The 6.0L just isn't as cold hearty as the older engines.

Thanks for the replies . I guess it does not start that rough. It has been around 16 degrees here in the morning . I do not think this truck has a plug in receptacle , I guess that was an option when new.
I just learned something , injectors work out of oil pressure , I have to read and see how that works.
Should I add something to the fuel at this temperatures ? I just filled for the first time and tried finding a station that looks like they sell a lot of diesel fuel, it had a 2007 green wraping around the spout . I think is an OK station.
Thanks again ,
Roberto.

a 6.0 with a rough start cold CAN be normal, depending on the temp and the engine oil you use. Up here in the great white north the 6.0s we service run Motorcraft 0w30 Full syththetic when the temps dip below -20c. BUT a rough start can also be caused by the FICM driver becoming weak or spool valves in the injectors that are sticking.
generally a problem with the high pressure oil system will appear when trying to restart when HOT

WE see problems when starting bone cold and hot, but most of the time its cold... I'm knee deep in one now that wouldnt start on a 40 degree day. I had a few cylinders chuggin to pull it in the door, thing wouldnt rev up, it was the worse sounding 6.0 I've ever worked on... I pulled the IPR out and the screen was full of shavings n plastic... this means the HPO system is contaminated, so Im doing an HPOP n injectors.
but yes we have seen the both hot and cold
