please help out....

k so these last couple of days i have been thinking about putting my truck up for sale... but i am not sure if i really want to do that, if i did sell it i would buy me either a f250 or f350 used of course, but i was wondering what kind of mpg you guys get.... and if so if you would list you lift and tires that you have on... cause that is what is probably going to push me over the edge if the price is right and you guys get quite a bit better mpg, i get about 10 mpg now, and eventually going on some long trips that a diesel would be alot nicer for and maybe save me in the future i appreciate your comments thanks for helping out...

I have a F350 with the 6.0 and I get 13/city and 16/hwy and about 10-12 towing our 11,000# 5er. The truck is completely stock engine and supension wise if you are looking at a 3/4 ton and 1 ton truck and you are concerned about mileage I would think twice about these trucks.

If you do not tow then do not get a diesel.

I average 16-18 MPG unloaded with my truck. It's a 2000 7.3 extended cab long bed 4x4.

wow i thought that they got alot better then that, i was thiking in the low to mid 20's. the reason why i was looking at a diesel was cause the mpg is better then i get now, i wouldn't be doing much towing it would be more of a everyday driver but i am going up to canada and north dakota to go hunting and hopefully texas, i would have a trailer on it when i went up to canada and north dakota... so do you guys think that it would be stupid to try and sell my truck and buy a older used diesel if that is the only reason i am thinking about getting it?
thanks again for you input and comments

No I dont think that you are stupid for wanting one but just be well informed before you take the leap into one of these trucks. Just know that diesel trucks are not cheap to fix when some thing happens to them.

EVERYTHING is more expensive with a diesel...oil changes, filters, tires, alignments, fuel. I keep spreadsheet on my vehicles. Not counting insurance or registration, operational costs for my diesel truck have been $0.23/mile(and I do almost all of the regular maintenance myself), my gas truck $0.16/mile, and the wife's car $0.12/mile. Like many have said, if you do not need one for heavy towing, they cost more to buy, own, and operate than a gas vehicle; unlike ten years ago when fuel was way cheaper and mileage better than gas rigs.
