I was just looking at what it costs to build one of those. I am intrigued. I am also relooking the F150 idea. Especially after looking at the new tow mirrors etc on them. Still don't like how "pretty" they are though.
Anybody have any idea what the timeline is on a new order F250?

 

I feel like they "prettied up" the 2011 Super Duty. Don't get me wrong, but I have always felt like the '08-'10 had almost a military look to them. You know, a "form follows function" look. They really softened up the looks on the 2011. It must have been all the people saying that the '08-'10 model was so ugly! I am very glad they changed the front end on the 2011 though. I always hated that I couldn't tell a '99 from a 2007. There really aren't that many of the '08-'10 trucks on the road, at least that I see. I like that!

 

You also said you average 12mpg around town.

If there was a single significant advantage to owning a 6.4L over the V10, I'd have one, but there isn't.

I tow at least twice a week, EVERY WEEK. So much for the "if you're gonna tow, you need a diesel" guys.

Look at it this way, if the 6.4L was so good, why is it only going to be in 3 model years? On the other hand, the V10 has been around for over 10 years, and is still available in the cab and chassis "work" trucks. hmmmm.

 

In case you hadn't heard, Ford had a falling-out with navistar over the 6.0L, so now they are building the 6.7L "in house" in Mexico. The 6.4L was an interim engine, and it is also used in many other commercial applications such as school buses. Just look up the MaxxForce 7.

 

Oh, and driving to work, which is six miles each way, I average 12 miles per gallon. The truck is cold for most of the drive in each direction. On the interstate I average 16-17 MPG. In mixed driving, I get 14-15 MPG. My lie-o-meter stays right at 14.5 plus or minus .1 MPG. I filled up yesterday...25 gallons and reset the trip-meter from 356 miles. That's right at 14 MPG, all in town driving. The summer diesel is in now, and she gets better mileage in the summer.

So, I went to the local dealer here today. I drove the 2010 F150 and it was ok. Then I sat in a 2010 F250 and it really felt like I was in a TRUCK. Unfortunately, I am not really comfortable with any of the 2010 F250 engines. I don't really need a Diesel and not a fan of what I hear or see in the V8 and V10. With all that being said, I think I am just going to order a 2011 6.2L V8. I will start a new thread with some questions in regards to what options I should shoot for. I really do appreciate everybodys advice and help. It has certainly given me the knowledge to track down the proper choice.

 

If you can deal with the gas mileage, the V10 is a great engine. It's been around forever and is extremely reliable.

 

Agreed. Bought mine new in 9/02 and it's easily been the best engine/drivetrain I've owned in the past 20 years. Right now I have 81000 miles on it and the only problem was a bad spark plug ignition coil that happened recently. I think I might have messed it up myself when I changed the plugs a few months ago. Still starts right up and runs like new, even still on the original Motorcraft battery!

Mileage is 11/12mpg daily and a bit over 14hwy. Not bad for a 6800lb 4x4 with a gas engine.

I plan to keep this truck for another 40K or so and then look at a new one. I'm really bummed out that Ford is only going to offer one gas engine in the new SDs.

Guess they're going to be like GM/Dodge and force us to go with overpriced diesels to get good towing power. When I bought my Superduty the V10 was a $600 upgrage!! I've heard the new 6.7 PSD will add $10000 to the price tag. F'ing ridiculous.

I liked the days when you could pick a larger gas engine in HD pickups. GM offered the 7.4L/8.1L, Dodge had the 8.0L V10 and Ford had the 460 then the 6.8L V10.

When I get ready to pull the trigger on a new one I guess I'll have to take a look at whatever diesel Ford is offering and see what kind of reputation/price tag it has by then. Hopefully they'll change their mind and be offering a "big" gas engine but I wouldn't bet on it.

Rumor has it that Ford has a 7 liter version of the new 6.2 in the plans.

 

Ha. I don't have time to wait on rumors. Of course, FORD has been RUMORED to have a F150 Diesel coming out for years. So, who knows.

 

That would be about a 430? A nice modern low-rpm V8 with something like 400hp/500lb-ft would be perfect.

Sounds perfect for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I don't mind waiting. My current truck isn't exactly falling apart and I'll wait an extra two years to get a truck I'll be happy with for ten years! Guess I'm getting old.
