The more I think about how quick this happended and unless a hose actually popped of the radiator I am leaning more to EGR cooler failure. Because they move the coolant throught the cooler at a rate of 70GPM so it would only take a few seconds to pump every bit of coolant out of the engine. Unless I am totaly off base with that you dont need a new engine unless the truck actually ingested the coolant.

Sounds like you need new mechanics. Since you're in Peoria, have your truck towed to River City Diesel. They're the best in the business and where everybody within, oh, 400+ miles takes their trucks to get the headgaskets/studs done.

AW..I'm still wondering what was said about no rad. hose's/coolant in engine, not fogetting why coolant still run's out? Bad HG can cause combustion gas to enter cooling system & can force coolant (puke) out degas tank. I dont think water can leak out between heads/block from bad h.g. Maybe you'll luck out & damage not real bad? Good luck on outcomre.

after a couple weeks of waiting I finally got more info. I also met a young guy who had the exact same thing happen to him. He had owned his truck for two days though. He, however, went and got a lawyer because he is so mad at the dealer. Anyway, I need new heads, egr and oil cooler according to the shop foreman. They have agreed to pay for half of it. My part of the bill will still be around $3,000 though. I called my friends Dad who owns a small dealership in the St. Louis area and he told me I should trade the truck in right away. Anyone have any opinions about that?

That dealership has no idea whats wrong with your truck and they are throwing parts at it. All 3 of those problems are what will cause coolant loss but there is no way the all went out at the same time. For $3000 you can have ARP head studs put in, heads checked for cracks and resurfaced, new black onyx head gaskets, oil cooler rebuilt and an EGR cooler delete installed and that will eliminate any more coolant loss problems with your truck. You have one of the best 6.0 powerstroke shops in the country in the same town as you. Here is a link get ahold of these guys

Yep. Get rid of it and don't buy another 6.0.

Any particular reason you NEED a diesel?

IMO, if you are thinking of spending another 3K on the truck or dumping it and taking a larger loss - you would be much better off to find a lawyer in the $150 - $250 hr. range and have them send a letter to the dealer. If this is really a respected dealership, they should have a 30-day, 3,000 mile warranty on major components (or something similar). At worst, you waste less than $300 on an attorney, but at least you explored your legal rights.
As for the "paying half of the bill" - I would be willing to bet money you are paying all of the labor and they "might" be discounting some parts. They aren't paying for anything. This dealer does not sound very respectable to me.

These are quite often 50/50. Then again, if the truck was marked as sold "as is", there's no warranty whatsoever.

This whole thing sounds so shady. I'd highly recommend having it sent to a very reputable shop...somewhere that does a lot of 6.0 work. You'd be surprised to find out that the dealer tech working on your truck could have very limited experience on these engines..
