2 questions:

1. Did you leave Las Vegas with a full tank?
2. Where on I-15 did you run out?

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but that leads to question #3 -

Why didn't you get fuel in Barstow?

That's the routine. I do this drive frequently and always stop at the same place. I usually stop at the last exit in Barstow at Lenwood/outlets. The wife and 3 year old were sleeping and I got pinched by a semi trying to merge over. I thought about exiting at Outlet Center where the desert races pit and doubling back but my guage was reading "50 miles" at that point so I thought "No problem, only 20 miles to Victorville"

I suspect that when you fill up the truck you can drive for about 30 miles and it still reads full, so you should have known its inaccurate. My 150 is the opposite of yours, I have a 25.5 gallon tank and I have never put more than 23 gallons in it and I have had the needle buried. If your so mad at Ford for its gas guage, go buy a chevy and then when the fuel light is on leaving the gas station after filling up comeback.

That would drive me crazy too if my gauge was off by 1/8.

I'd pull the float assy out for some bench testing and alittle bending of the float rod or replace it and see if it fixes the problem.

I trust my Scanguage more than the vehicle. But I really would have thought the calibration on your truck would be toward the side of caution. Meaning, when it said 30 miles, you actually have more. I hate to admit it, but I would have done the same thing I'm sure. Just because I would have felt the lie o meter was less accurate the other way.

Just for giggles, think I'll put in an empty 5 gal can in my truck just for Luck!

Why is the Scangauge more accurate?

It's taking information from the same place your other electric devices are.

Don't know the math of it, but it amazes me how many times I have filled up and if the Scanguage says it will take 11.1 gallons, it is usually within a couple of tenths. And the Scanguage will usually show more gallons remaining than the lie o meter, although I never take it down lower than 1/4 tank to know for sure.

Over the weekend in my 6.4L I was almost empty and it said I had 134 miles to E. I turned the truck off and then turned it back on and it went down.

I know the ones on Chevys are! I had a work truck that ran dry on me and the dash said I had a half tank left... Burned up the fuel pump too!

Exactly why I can't live without the Scangauge II.

That thing don't lie... and if it does, it's the computer that's doing all the fibbing.

Wahh, wahh. You babies and your gauges.

I must just old fashioned in resetting the trip meter and knowing roughly how many miles/kms my tank will take me.
