Dad Got His Tailgate Stolen!

Title says it all, off of his '09 F250. Has anyone else heard or experienced this? I'm a police officer and personally have never heard of a tailgate getting stolen. Any ideas on how much a new one will cost? Installation seems like it would be easy.

Quite a few tailgates get stolen in Arizona. A buddy had his stolen off his 05 at a hospital while he was in the ER with his wife. Getting it replaced wasn't cheap.

On the 08-10 Superduty's the tailgates get stolen real often. Make sure to keep it locked. I have kept mine locked since I came home with it. Dealers around here make sure to keep them lock b/c they'll come back the next day and have several trucks with tailgates missing. People with the older body stlye's are putting them on there trucks.

If you don't like the inconvience of locking your tailgate, throw a metal screw-tie(hose clamp) over the end of the tailgate with the notch that lets you remove the tailgate. It's not exactly full-proof, but unless they have 5 minutes to unscrew the clamp, it will most likely prevent it from being stolen.

I wish they would make the tailgate lock and unlock with the doors.

It takes less than 30 seconds to take a tailgate off a Super Duty. Keep em locked.

Man, that sucks. I've read about this happening to people on this site for years now. I used to think the locking tailgate feature was just to be used with tonneau covers. I always lock mine now when out and about.

my key will not fit my tail gate, but does fit my spare?

I am guessing at one point the tail gate was stolen off mine and replaced.

All you need is 2 simple hose clamps to add some extra security.

Mine does. All you need is a door lock actuator, wire, and wire ties. I did mine for less than $30. Do a search in the 04-08 section. Took less than an hour to install.

I guess this happens on the newer trucks because of the "Man Step" and people with older trucks want the "Man Step"???

I better go home and lock mine. :-/

Two of my most hated things are theft and vandalism...why can't people just leave others alone. Buncha' low-life's.
