What to look for on a 00 Powerstroke 4x4

Going to look at an F-250 with a 7.3L in a few hours. Is there anything I should look for?

Truck as 156,000 miles on it.

from the research Ive done on the powerstroke sites(a 00-03 ccsb 7.3 will be my next truck) the tranny fluid and overall condition is big since its the weak link, especially the tc. The condition of the water pump is also an issue as is the CPS. Obvisouly basic maintance-espeicaly oil as these motors use it to fire the injectors as well as the fuel filter. The unit bearings and vaccum lines in the front axle can wear out or get plugged in the case of the vac lines.Thats a few of the basics. The powerstroke sites have a ton more info on this topic.

156K means that the tranny is probably near the end of its life, if it hasn't been replaced yet. Ball joints should have been done by now too. Didn't see if it was 4x4 or not, but... Don't be surprised if the auto hubs don't lock, they're crap at best. Biggest thing to check for is maintenance. Check the turbo shaft for play and also see how the wheel looks (IE, it should be clean and not beat up). Check the oil pan for rust. It's not the end of the world if it has rust on it, but, it means that you'll have to pull the motor to replace it. But, since you're in Houston, there shouldn't be any rust issues.
