I'd take the V10 over the 6.0L or 6.4L any day. The V10 will get almost the same mileage as the 6.4L, but its WAY cheaper to fix. I actually found an 08 CCLB dually 4x4 V10 King Ranch not long ago. If it hadn't been in TX I think I'd have bought it. Never thought I'd say that.

amarillos are nice trucks, i looked at one before i went with my truck (7.3) i looked at lots and i mean LOTS of 05-07 trucks cuz i liked the interiors and the front ends compared to the older trucks (99-04) but after looking at so many trucks finding things wrong with them and reading/finding out how much parts cost i was gettin scared away, the amarillo i looked at had a 6'' lift 20'' rims and 37'' tires, really nice looking truck till i took it for a test drive and all i could see for car lenths was white smoke comming out of the exhaust and then i open the hood and no coolant in the res...my uncles friends got a 06 harley lifted with chip/exhaust it has 70thousand k on it and the headgaskets been done twice and egr once, the truck is now forsale and a duramax is in his driveway.......i found my truck with new paint, new lift, new tranny and a pricey sterio in it with tons of other new stuff on it, mostley from ford cuz his dad worked there for a good price(off the guy who owns the harley trucks cousin) i wasnt keen on the front end of 7.3s headlights and grill is uglybut that is cheaper to change then repairs ull need to do on a 6.0 and my truck will out last one.

I'm not getting into the 6.0 debate, but I will say a friend of mine just bought an amarillo a few months ago. Not sure on the miles but I know its half of the one you're talking about or less. He paid around 30-32 maybe. There aren't many amarillo trucks and I'm sure they will retain a resale value just for that reason.

lets say this i bought my 6.0 in june with 169K on it and it was a buyback at 36K. it had the driver up pipe replaced when it was bought back and good to go. the FICM was replaced between Feb and june 2011 when i bought it and i just replaced the oil cooler and did egr delete. other than that there were no issues when we tore it apart and it has all new suspension parts up front. Balljoints swaybar links etc. you just have to do your homework. and if you know people you can get hooked up. got my oil cooler and egr delete etc done for 160 plus parts.

and you only start to get into head gaskets when you ignore the issues and dont know whats going on with the truck. (eot vs ect)

And rightfully so, in my opinion. Navistar really screwed Ford with this POS.

I'm a 6.0 lover and ignore the hate. And follow your threads over on the nation too.
I have the same opinion as thejake, ignore the obvious problems and it breaks.
What vehicle doesn't have problems? They might be more expensive for a 6.0, but what diesel isn't eh?
But seriously I'm not getting into the 6.0 debate.

If you dig deep enough Ford screwed themselves on the 6.0 by messing with the programing and upping the HP trying to keep up with Dodge and Chevy. The 6.0 is a solid engine platform and yes they have there quirks and issues but so do the Cummins and Duramax. The new 6.7 Cummins like to go boom pretty easily trying to make big HP numbers and the Duramax still likes to eat injectors like candy no matter what you do to them and all three of them have the dreaded head gasket issue. It's really 6 of one half a dozen of another............

The 6.0 has its issues and theyre known now and can be dealt with. when they first came out they started to have issues like oil cooler clogs and egr failures and not knowing what to do for just took them in and told the techs to fix them without even having any info on the new motors. once people started recognizing the key failures like the oil cooler and egr coolers and need for things like coolant filters they have become more reliable and easier to deal with. they still have a bad rap from those that never owned one and read about them online. the samething is going on with the 6.4 now. there are alot of people flooding stories about how the 6.4 is complete **** now also and to stay away and only by a 7.3 or a cummins. its alot of bad press perpetuated by people that have no first hand knowledge of the realities.

I have also been running IDP's Extreme Street tune all summer and using the towing tune when I have to tow something and my head gaskets are still original with 169k on the clock as of yesterday. The EGR valve and cooler mysteriously fell off sometime last year as well.

yup pushing 173K and was stock till i got it in june except the FICM.

Im currently running spartan hybrid race tune and will only do studs when i blow a head gasket which might not happen now since with the new cooler and coolant filter and egr gone the truck is mostly bulletproofed except the studs which fail mainly as a result of failed egr cooler

Yupp, my truck will see 25lbs-31lbs of boost towing with the weak link being the intercooler boots and those are pretty easy to fix and I have already blown one off. I just need to spend the $190 on the upgraded boots and clamps from BD Diesel.

yup we did every update i could think of this past saturday. icp, oil drain, thermostat, turbo bolts, fuel pressure regulator spring, intake manifold gaskets, any bad gaskets on the fuel filter lines etc.

only think i didnt update was the turbo oil feed line from the one with the flex hose in it since it wasnt a stocked part at my local ford.
