2006 f250, Is this a good price?
Well, the little red f150 is staring to fall apart on me, so my choices are to invest money in my f150, or buy my cousins f250. This is the same guy I bought my f150 from.
The truck is a 2006 f250 powerstroke, 4x4, automatic, with the Amarillo package. It has never had any issues, is bone stock, and has 102,000 miles on it and the interior is spotless. He wants $22,000 for it. I dont know much about the 6.0. I've tried reading post on these engines to find out what years to avoid, ad the best I've come up with is it is just a hit and miss thing. So, what do you all think?
Oh, he told me if something goes wrong with the truck within a 1000 miles that he would cover it.

I assume its a crew cab long box or a short box. As long as eveything is in good working order and he maintained the truck its a good price. Around here a truck like that is $25-26k.
I too would be worried about the "family" deal. I went through that when I bought my old F150 from my uncle. After it was all said and done I found out that the price he gave me was on the high side (my fault for not researching enough). I was less than pleased, but I couldn't say too much. If there is a big failure under 1000mi on this truck your cousin might start signing a different tune and not cover the work. IF you do it I'd get everything in writing.

You say that you won't push the issue, but I'll bet the tune changes real quick if something does fail. You do know that to replace a set of injectors is over $1600 in parts alone? They also have histories of popping head gaskets near 100k and the repair bill on that is around $3-4k depending on the shop. I had the EGR cooler blow up on the 07 F550 service truck I had in North Carolina this fall and that was a $2500 bill. The thing with the 6.0L is when it fails it has a history of being extremely expensive to fix. Usually when big sums of money gets thrown around between family members things go south quick. Been there done that.
You also said you've been around the truck since he's owned it. Did he buy it new? The funny thing is that I was around my uncles/my F150 since it was new so I thought I knew everything that was done to it. I was very suprised at the crap I found wrong that was either rigged together or not fixed that I never knew about, and it looked flawless when I test drove it. Just some food for thought.

Here is a laundry list of things that I have done to my truck in the 2 years I have owned it keep in mind I bought my truck with 123k on it and it now has 161k on it. The other thing is that oil changes are $120 if you have some one else do them and add another $90 for fuel filters if some one esle does them. I have since started doing my own oil changes and fuel filters and cut that expense in half.
Replaced the turbo under dealer warranty. (1800 out of pocket otherwise)
2 injectors 1300
FICM 800 (Fuel Injection Control Module)
EGR delete 900
Front brakes 563 (that was just pads and rotors)

The truck just came out of the dealership today. Same issue, $2200. He paid it. Had it serviced too. I've talked him down to $21,000.

LOL, this truck has had some of the issues we've warned about, and you know the high dollar cost of repairing the engine and you're STILL thinking about it? Smart money would be to stay away. Once the first thing goes on the 6.0L they seem to start falling apart. The 07 I had this fall was good to 50k, since then (25k miles) the truck has had $8-9k in repairs done.

Sit back and answer this one question, please - why do you NEED a 3/4 ton diesel truck? Do you tow 10k pounds frequently?
Diesels are work trucks. If you simply want a diesel for the "cool" factor, you will pay dearly for it in higher continuing maintenance costs. In fact, if I needed a 3/4 or 1 ton truck for pulling a bigass trailer, I'd look for a good used V-10 gasser and put up with awful gas mileage.

Naw, the cool factor to me was a 1/2 ton with a super charger.
actually yes, we tow on a regular basis.
We have a v10 excursion with air springs that can handle all of our cooler trailers loaded, but we are wanting to mount our next cooler on a gooseneck trailer to make it easier to handle. My 1/2 ton could handle (using that very loosely) the trailers when they're empty. The v10 is fine by me, our excursion gets 12 mpg, my f150 got 12.5, 14 on a good day.
