Considering Trading up for an 11 F250 SD...Opinions?

I have a 2007 F-150 XLT 2wd Flareside w/ 60K miles on it. I had it in Mississippi where it never snowed, but I have since moved up to the Northeast where it snows all the time, so I want a 4x4. I am considering trading up for an 11 F250 SD 4x4 w/ the 6.7L Diesel, Any opinions or reviews of the new SD's? I drove one last week & loved it, but the dealer gave me a garbage trade offer on my truck (~$7500) so I did not jump at the time, but I would still like to buy one in the near future.

Thanks for any input guys!

Do you have something to tow that requires a SD diesel? If not, seems like a waste to spend all that money up font and in maintenance. Oh and have you seen the prices of diesel in our area? I can see wanting a 4x4 in our area. My daily driver is a 4x4, but I managed in my 2wd truck back when it was my only vehicle.

If you do not haul or tow heavy just get a 1/2 ton 4x4 because the diesel will eat you out of house and home in repairs and maintenance.

I have a car hauler & Mustang that I tow regularly; though the total loaded weight is probably about 6000lbs, which my F150 can handle just fine. I thought about just getting a newer F150 4x4, but IMHO, the new ones are ugly, but I love the new SD's. I have wanted one for sometime, but if the 2011 is a POS, then it's not worth it.

Well, if you tow regularly, then I can see it being worth getting a SD. It's definitely not a POS by any means. I just meant the standard maintenance and cost of fueling that beast will be pricey.

I replaced the front rotors and pads on my truck this fall and the one rotor was $200. If you can get by with a a light truck I would do it because when something breaks or wears out on a Super Duty it's not cheap to fix it.

I think a new gasser F-250 would be perfect for you. Have you driven one? It'd be great for your loads. If you were towing heavier, I'd say go for diesel.

Well, I almost bought an SD but ended up getting another half ton. I was glad with my decision, as someone had state diesel is expensive. I just didn't want to spend extra on maintenance and higher insurance.

Although I know at times it is a hard decision to make.

Don't let these guys scare you with dollar signs and horrer stories. Go test drive both a 1/2 ton fully loaded 4x4 all that jazz and than test ride a F250 PSD with the same setup. I think you will be coming out with a F250 in the end, as if you even think about it than you want it!

I love my F-250 and have no regrets of selling the F-150 besides I have to start all over again with mods. It's a totally different animal. Yea the maintenance is higher, but I've put 3200 miles on the truck and it's 5 months old. So I'll have to change oil and fuel filters twice a year; not a big deal to me. Also go to powerstrokenation.com to read up about them. If you see the mods some have done to there's you'll buy one this week. Only thing I would be worry about is spending $60k on a truck and having to drive it in the winters ya'll have.

It's your money, so spend it as you choose. If you want a SD and don't mind paying for it, I say go for it.

As others have stated it doesn't really sound like you HAVE to have a 3/4 ton with a diesel. At most I'd go with an F250 with the 6.2L gas engine. I drove a friends truck with the 6.2L, and compared to my old chipped 7.3L there wasn't alot of difference. When I figure in all the extra maintenance on the diesel, the cold weather behavior of a diesel, and how good the 6.2L is I would probably not go diesel next time. The fact that on a cold morning you can jump in the truck, hit the key, and go is nice.

The best thing to do is go to the dealer and ask to test drive both a 6.7L and 6.2L in 2 trucks that are equipped close to the same and see which you like more. The sad part about trading in your F150 up here is that you won't get much for it. The market for 2wd vehicles in this area is not good. If you want a higher trade value you're going to have to go back down south to trade. You'd get alot more in trade for your truck if you took it 5hrs south to NC.

comparing a gasser to even a chipped 7.3 is not even close to accurate. do you think a gasser SD would keep up with a mustang GT? my 6.0 will. the 7.3 is a great durable engine but not near the powerhouse the newer diesels are. the 6.7 is a great engine. the cost of fuel is Nil because if you want to get the most from a gasser, you run 91/93 right? well diesel and premium fuel are very close to the same for what i have seen. and oil changes? you can get 2.5 gallons of good quality oil at walmart for 33$ add the filter and do it yourself and your close to a quik stop oil change in a gasser. plus the cost of regret is immeasurable and if you buy the gasser SD, that is all you will have IMHO.

OP, good luck. i went from a 08 lariat 150 to a 05 lariat 350 and have never looked back.
