Which engine is in it? 6.0, 5.4, 6.8? The 6.0's are usually fine if they are left in stock form. Throw a tune on them and you better be prepared for some head work

If your mechanic knew it was a 5.4 and still said that, I'd find a new mechanic.

With that small gas v8 in that truck, be prepared to spend a lot of money at the gas pump....

For $25K, he may just be trying to recoup the gas money he's spent owning the truck.

I'm no expert on them, but you will prob have to deal with replacing the heads at some point which can be very expensive..

Also the maintenance on a diesel a lot more costly than a gasser.. So be prepared for that.

He has obviously put some money into it with the lift and all that, but has he done anything to the motor? Mods, tuners, any work, etc.?

I don't know of all the good or bad diesel shops here in SA, actually the only one I know is Truck Source Diesel. Give them a call and see what the costs are on some of the 6.0's that they've worked on - egr delete, head gaskets, head studs, etc..

If you want it get it! Put $3-5k aside for a EGR delete, ARP headstuds and you will be golden. The truck will run forever, throw a SCT tuner with Eric's tunes on it and rape most of the things that pull up next to you!

Maintance give me a break people! Oil change if you do it yourself is another $20 than a 1/2 ton gasser. I change my oil every 3k miles a diesel I would go 6K. so two oil changes on a gasser equals the diesel one oil change. And even doing it that way I am being **** some say and over doing it.

If the motor is stock, runs good, you like it, have the cash, buy it and never look back!

25k is really not bad if its a clean truck. I'd do it. Best advice I can give is to RESEARCH the 6.0 before buying one.

I AGREE!!!

why worry? if it is stock, it most likely will be fine... all these gasser owners chiming it about diesel maint and stuff makes me laugh. yeah it is more than a gasser but the resale is better, the joy of having a truck that will yank the *** out of a gasser at half the RPM's is the best feeling. do what you want and what others have said, research!!!! they can be a bastard but many STOCK ones are just fine.

if you know the owner, even better!!!

For $25k I'd jump on it. When I was looking 05-07 models with that low of miles were selling for $30k w/o any mods. But as the rest said, make sure you do your research on the 6.0L engine. Go to powerstrokenation.com and read up on there for 2-3 days. I'm not expert on them, but know enough. Some have a lot of issues and some have 300k miles w/o any major engine problems.
