Figuring out 2011 6.2 Towing Numbers

Was somewhat surprised when I went and compared towing numbers to a 2011 F-250 4x4 6.2L 3.73 with 8' bed to my 2006 F-250 4x4 6.8L 4.30 with 6.5' bed, both are Crew Cabs.

2006 max cargo/pin 2,499 lbs, 2011 max cargo/pin 2,709 lbs (each wt off of wt sticker on door frames)
2006 max trailer wt 12,500 lbs, 2011 max trailer wt 12,000 lbs
2006 max 5th wheel wt 15,500 lbs, 2011 max 5th wheel wt 11,700 lbs

Was glad to see the cargo/pin increased but disappointed in the 5th wheel decrease. Did not realize the 4.30's made that much difference in towing with the exception of my low cargo/pin wt.

It's not just the gears, it's also the engine. The 6.2 may be a strong gasser, but it's not a 6.8 V-10.

What he said. And count me in as one who hopes they come up with a stronger (read more low end torque), gas engine cause I'm gonna be in the market for one within the next couple years. I just don't really want a diesel, but want to pull a large trailer, or 5er.

Buy a used 2010 or earlier with a V-10 or order a commercial cab/chassis model, those still have the V-10 available.

I know this post is a month old, but... Before you buy a cab/chassis truck, check with your insurance company! They may insist you purchase commercial insurance. I had a *real* problem getting insurance for mine simply because the serial number tells them it's commercial.
