Smile Duramax this, Duramax that, I hate them!

I am the guy in town that won't let the Ford vs. Chevy argument go. One of my friends is a Chevy guy, and he won't let it go either, and all he says is "Duramax is more powerful", and it's really getting on my nerves. I love the PSD, and if I could afford it I'd have one, but I have a big wish list, so it's dang near impossible for me to afford anything that big. Anyway, I need some more stuff to tell this guy about how great Fords are. I am just tired of hearing about the Duramax, it's making me sick. Duramax even sounds wimpy compared to PowerStroke. Thanks in advance, y'all!

Smile

does your friend actually "OWN" a duramax??? If not then just tell him that until he buys one, he basicly doesn't know what he's talking about and then just leave it at that. Personally each engine, the duarmax and the PSD have their good points and their bad points (yes even the PSD, though I haven't had any complaints from mine) It just kind of sounds like a pointless argument when both of you don't drive a diesel. If you two get along pretty good, why don't you take a saturday and go to both dealers and test drive both trucks together!! Should make for some interresting converstion for later.

International uses a version of the PSD, called the T444E, in their class 6 trucks. Ask your friend if the Duramax is used anywhere besides a P/U. Then you can argue that the PSD is a "truck" engine.

Tina--Are you the only one who monitors this forum?
You have good reply's

About the difference--maybe just maybe the duramax is off the line faster , however the PSD is going to kill it once it gets rolling....

Also the Dur is highly tweeked to get these numbers---

Fact---The PSD is detuned to put in the Super Duty....which translate's into a very tuneable and power getter which hardly any money...You can double the numbers for about $1000...

For less then a $100 you can get 100hp and 150 ft lbs...

Also is the fact that Ford claims low numbers for insurance reasons and GM claims higher numbers to say they have the strongest....

I dont usually pay attention to these claims,,I leave the results on the street...I cant usually find any Chevy's to race...I have to many chevy stickers in my window(I place a small chevy sticker in the window to represent a win)...

Talking

Mach1, thanks!! Nice to see other diesel nuts here besides me!!!

Hey, how do you like that propane???
And what's a thermowrap???
Noticed you don't have a chip or gauges!!!
Do you like that ram air?? I just had a TSB done on my truck to improve the air box. Ford changed out some parts on the stock air box and added some other parts. Plus a 3" air filter. I haven't checked on that filter yet to see if it "really" is 3". But when it's time to change it, my Western-Diesel air filter will be going back in.

Hey Tina---
Looks like you are the only other dedicated PSD over here,,,You know your stuff from what I have read and you answer faster then I do...

My truck--I need to update my signature--over here they are crazy about it...Their sigs are longer then the replies and over there we are limited to three lines...

My truck---Yes first thing is guages--better have them for the mods...I do...

I went conservative on the chip--PIII--I like the way it shifts...Then I have the propane for power and fuel mileage...

I have the econo exhaust--because the real one is going to be the biggest project yet...

I am just about done with the intake, probably one more overhaul...should have read more first...
I removed it from the truck completely and removed all the restrictions from the air path,,Sealed it completely(even drain holes) turned the snorkel upside down and opened it up,,added a scoop(large) added a K&N and then wrapped with A/C insulation (foil-backed ureathane) to keep the air cool, wrapped the intercooler pipe that they dont wrap from the factory...

The wife see's under the hood the other day and says it looks like something NASA is going to launch...

You might consider going back and checking Fords work and make sure they put a filter in there...dont wait to long...I would already have the WD filter in there...Its about the best thing going...

Talk to you latter...

Welcome Eddie...

First things first the PSD is a detuned International 444...

For detunes them an dputs them in a pickup truck...

With that said...First there is the ICP resistor PCM fake out...Someone dynoed and said this is worth 50hp...
Open the intake and scoop it..Cold wrap it...for a ramair/cool induction package...Cut the muffler off at the front and add a dynomax($45)...Play with the waste gate opening(turn up the turbo)...fake out the temp sensor....good after market air cleaner..

So you have added more atomized fuel, more cooler, higher velocsity(sp) air flow...opened the front and the rear...

This should get you at least 80 hp and over 100ft lbs...
