By no means is the 6.4L perfect as a 7.3L stock for stock, but it runs circles around the 6.0L running or not with the easily fixable by removing the cancerous DPF.

6.0L requires major surgery and parts replacement to fix known weaknesses.

it isn't that bad Adrian.

every ford diesel has had issues, including the 6.7

I didn't say the 6.0 was perfect or even close. I know what it takes to keep them running. all i said is the 6.4 has its issues as well and being FORD built it still isn't a problem free motor and has issues as well.

HUH? there is no 7.3 coming.. did i read this wrong?







oh and it wasn't the turbo. the up-pipes were both cracked and that was the issue.. sounds were that of a turbo bearing heading south.. damnedest thing..
Yes ford has began work on their version of the 7.3. it won't be the same as the 7.3 of old times but it is in the works and their hoping to have a prototype by early to mid 2013.

The 7.3, 6.0, and 6.4 were not FORD built, they were IH/Navistar. The new 6.7 is the first FORD built diesel.

First ford built in Mexico. man this is an older thread, who dug this up!

I ended up with the junk 6.4L...........DELETED and TUNED...Wow what a machine

Wow, I missed that little gem about Ford "building" the 7.3 again. Seriously?? They just spent millions and millions (and maybe close to a billion) dollars on creating the 6.7. Why would they ditch it after two years? Got any links to articles stating this? Or is it from your mechanics who probably also say that Ford still owns Cummings.

well i do see 3 motors since 03...... 6.0 6.4 and the 6.7... 6.0 used the longest of these. it wouldn't surprise me if they did look to change again.

I would think that if they are planning on building the 7.3 again, it will be based on the 6.7. It shouldn't be that hard to add 600cc to it. It would be like they did with the modular gas motors, creating the 5.4 from the 4.6.

Cummins created their 6.7 from their 5.9.
