2005 f250 info

I just passed the dealership next to my house and theres a nice looking all black 2005 Harley f250. It has 70k miles on it. havent looked at it up close just a drive by. Looks like a 6inch lift and some 37's. Other then the studs blowing is there anything else.
My boss had a 2006 6.0L and traded it with 120k miles and had zero issues with it. It was his work truck to and from and around the job truck. It seems like there are issues with each diesel that have come out with. Are there certain things too keep an eye out for when looking under the hood of it. They are asking 27,800 for it. Thats around private party book value. Ive wanted a duty for a while, but most are 200k miles and 40k bucks. anyway any help would be great.

look for the head gasket leak, if so it needs new head studs, soon. The egr i think was also an issue on the 6.0's. Check all fluinds, even blinkerfluid! take it for a test drive, listen for anything unusual, vibrations, clunks, bangs, snaps, pops, anything. but For as low miled as it is for a diesel i think you will be ok. oh also look to see if the front tires are cupping, Front end parts for the superdutys are not cheap.

Yah i do remember my boss at 100k had to redo all his front end. i think the ball joints. but he also had a diesel motor banging around on rough dirt grade for about 4 years or so.

Head gaskets and EGR are the 2 main issues. Oil cooler is something that is a good idea to do as well.

I loved my 05, minus the cost of repairs which is why i got rid of it. I started having a bunch of tiny repairs at $2-300 each that got old after a few months and i still needed a few expensive maintenance items taken care of. After that truck, until i actually need a diesel i'm sticking with gas trucks.

They aren't that easy to work on motor related stuff due to how big of motor it is. The ball joints are time consuming to do, but if you can do a lift install on a jeep they should be no issue.

27,500 keep looking. If you can afford that price, look for at least a 6.4 and spend a couple grand more.

They got the job one trucks straightened out with reprogramming. Mine is a job 3. Anyway, a 6.4L can just not be depended on forever running the stock DPF crap. 1600 degree heat will cause something to fail, and drops MPGs single digits when towing.

Since tuning mine, she never goes over 1100 degrees, the monitor lets me watch the coolant vs oil temps, and she'll get consistent 16mpg towing and 19 if I'm hammering on it empty. 20 would be easy if I kept out of the throttle, but it is just too much fun with the six speed.

my turbo is letting go at 126K miles.. so think of that.

i paid 18K 18 months ago for mine. paid off now, i am actually dropping it off at the shop to get WORK DONE SON!!

don't be afraid of the truck, just don't be shocked if something does go wrong. them 08-10 front ends do look good.

i think there are better deals out there. get you a cheaper 06 lariat and have enough left to actually buy a real Harley, not just a cladded truck

$27.5 is crazy high. You can get a good 6.4 for that.

Guys i deal alot with ford working for goodyear and every mechanic i have talked to said the 6.4 is junk. They have more problems than the 6.0. If you can afford it buy the 6.7 it is an awesome motor or if you want to hold out ford is building the 7.3 or trying to build it starting early 2013

Your mechanics are dumb.

If the funds align soon, I might be selling the ole 7.3 and going down .9 liters... But, I'd rather buy a house first.

we see alot of 6.4 in the shop with problems . not saying we don't see 6.0 but ford will eventually get it right and have with the 6.7.

oh and it wasn't the turbo. the up-pipes were both cracked and that was the issue.. sounds were that of a turbo bearing heading south.. damnedest thing..
