2006 6.0 question

Hey guys. Im looking for some feedback on a truck I'm looking at. For sale in my area is a 2006 reg cab 4x4 XLT 6.0 f250. It has 87000 on it with another 10mos or 10k on the ESP warranty. I looked into it and found out you can warranty a 6.0 under ESP Extracare to 120K. The guy had head gaskets done under warranty already. Working at a ford shop, Im aware of the recommendation of the studs, oil cooler, and EGR delete, but what are the risks of running a 6.0 into the 100K+ mile range even if its warrantied to 120k and I did those mods after? What are some other common issues with the motor I'd need to be aware of?

He was asking 17K and now down to 16K and claims the truck has been a car its whole life, wasnt used for plowing. probably used for towing. Should I make the jump and sell my truck while its still worth something and get this truck?

Thanks!

If heads were done once before without upgrade, it is just a matter of time, (or sooner if it wasn't done right) before they blow again. Known weakness like you've identified.

I'll assume automatic, so that is always a concern for the 5R110 to let go, and that ain't cheap either.

How far do you drive? What do you haul?

I don't fit the ideal diesel requirements, but I regularly haul landscaping and gardening materials/plants/flowers, so I need the bed. Would put a plow on it in the winter but not commercially, for myself and friends. I dont NEED the diesel engine, but have always been a seeker of the bigger engine. If I can get rid of my donkey 4.6 f150 for a 6.0 stroker for less? I'd be down to do it. It wouldn't be my primary vehicle. Im well aware of the higher maintenance costs.

I drive 12K-15K a year, but as i stated above, it would be about half or 2/3 as it wouldnt be my primary vehicle. I know a guy that had his tranny go, but thats why the fact that the ESP is still on the truck and available to be purchased for coverage to 120K is nice. Extracare covers transmission and internal transmisson components.

Well, if you wanna play, ya gotta pay. Every time ya run it, make sure ya warm it up completely and do a few throttle assaults to clean out that carbon.

Why not look for a 5.4 or V10 gasser if all you need is a long bed and a plow-suitable frame?

i agree that you might be leary of the first gasket job. its often times the heads that cause problems and ford dealers are notorious for poor HG jobs because they dont perform work to the heads to ensure flatness.

i disagree with the comment on the 5r though. its workhorse. many trucks pushing over 500hp (6.0) with them holding and similar with the 6.4 and on a stock or tuned truck it should do you good. mines at 180K and now is handling somewhere around 500hp. havent done any boosted launches but for dd and fun street driving its doing great
