Mystery Ring

I noticed a ring on both ends of the front axle this afternoon. The front wheel drive axle passes thru this ring. I have a picture in my album for your viewing.
My truck is 2009 F-250 SCAB AT, long bed.
If anyone knows what this ring is please reply.
Thanks

It's a dust seal for the axle tube. Pressed onto the axle shaft. They all tear. Ford has a new revised seal that presses into the tube.

Should these be replaced or is a crapshoot if they are left as is? Has Ford stepped up do this replacement as a TSB or recall? If not how much would this cost?
Thanks

No need to replace unless your in there doing ball joints or inner seals. Something that requires removing the axle shaft.

Would it be worth it to have it replaced under warranty or would that open up another can of worms?
My truck has about 46,000 miles on it so its still under the powertrain warranty.
Thanks

You can rip the entire front end apart and replace it, and it will just happen again. If Ford is paying for it, then have them do it. If it's coming out of your pocket, then no.
