It begins today!!

I just made the phone call scheduling my truck to get the head gaskets fixed and I should have it back by mid to late October baring anything major they find when the shop opens her up.

The only other thing that might need to be done is replace the turbo because it's basically been sitting for the last seven months and only being run 15-20 minutes on a weekly basis to keep the batteries charged. If I have to replace the turbo it will be a Powermax.

The Plan

Deck and Magnaflux the heads
ARP Studs
Black Onyx gaskets
Regulated fuel return
Billet fuel filter and oil filter caps
BD Diesel Intercooler boots and clamps

Hopefully I can get a few pics but the shop is a half hour drive one way from town.

Ditch the Black Onyx gaskets, they have had many failures. Use stock Ford head gaskets for that application, they seal much better.

x2 on no BO gaskets. otherwise youll be doing this again in a few months. go OEM or look into the new ones that RCD carries. havent heard too many results on them yet but are supposed to be basically same to OEM

ARgghhh!!! This truck is going to fight me kicking and screaming all the way to the shop.

Started the truck last night and ran it for a while and I was going to drop it off at lunch time. So I run home today scarf down lunch, get in the truck, turn the key, and all it does is click at me. The damn batteries died over night.

I will as soon as they get her in the shop. I got the truck to them on Thursday and they probably won't get to tearing into it until Monday. I will have her back in roughly two weeks.

my truck was supposed to take a week, ended up being 2. up-pipes sent to wrong address, heads put on back burner at the head shop due to some really screwed up ones that needed more work, but in the end i was stoked at the end result...

i think your shop is giving a really good everything goes wrong timeline.

The place that I took my truck is really the only diesel shop for light trucks in about a 100 mile radius of where I live. When I dropped my truck off they had 1 pick up and two logging trucks in the shop they have to send the heads to Green Bay to Polk Diesel for the machining so it's going to be tight getting the truck back to me in two weeks.

Got a voice-mail last night, the machine shop found a bad intake valve on one of the cylinders and they said it looked like it got hot and was hanging open. This must have happened before I got the truck and I've never noticed the truck running poorly other than when I had #7 and 8 injectors go bad. I will have more info when I call the shop this morning.

Edit: Just got of the phone with shop doing the head gaskets and they are all scratching there heads on this one because normally when they this the valve is snapped off and jammed into the head. I gave the ok to replace the valve this morning so this should only add a couple more days to the wait which is not bad.
