02 F250 5.4 with 6 speed Manual
Looking at getting a work truck that will be used for driving out of town towing a 5x10 utility trailer.. I have found a 02 F250 Single Cab 4x4 XL with the 5.4 and 6 speed manual.. How well would this truck do on the highway? as far as pulling the small trailer and mpgs.. Cant remember anyone on here that has a 6 speed manual 5.4.. The truck has 125k on it and i have them down to $2300..
Im not looking to spend a whole lot of money since its going to be a work, just want a reliable truck that will pull the small trailer and get somewhat decent mpg.

It will tow a loaded 5x10 no problem, but don't expect anywhere near Ecoboost power or mileage out of it!
Gas mileage will probably be 15 mpg at best empty, not towing. Depending on the aerodynamics and weight of the trailer, I'd guess 8 to 12 mpg towing.
Your max tow rating is 7400# with 3.73's, 8900# with 4.10's. This is about the same as a F-150, it does have a lot more capable chassis but the 5.4 is what's limiting it. The ratings with an automatic are only 100# heavier, so it's not the tranny/clutch that's limiting it like on a F-150.
I'd jump on it - if you don't like it you should be able to flip it, book on it is about 6 grand.

Excellent tranny, change all the fluids if you get it. The ZF6 even has an internal oil pump, it's not just splash lube.
I'd go 100% synthetic in all the gear cases - the tranny and transfer case take ATF, the rear diff takes 75w140 unless it's a Dana 80, that and the front diff takes 75w90. If the rear is LS it needs friction modifier.
