lol there arnt many people that would agree with him...7.3 is a work horse that lasts with very little issues and has an amazing rep, a little underpowered compared to the 6.0 but a small amount of mods the 7.3 is right there with the 6leakers.

For me, a diesel is about being capable, and hard-working, not sprinting. I expect them to be slow, these new ones just have insane amounts of power. I would like a diesel to get good mileage, tow whatever I ask it to, and stay in one piece while I run its odometer well into the 6 figures over a period of time almost as long as I've been alive.

Yup, exactly what comes to mind for me too. Turbo and even non-turbo 7.3, 6.9, 12V and early 24V (up until 2004 probably, not 04.5-06's). I'd absolutely want a manual Dodge though. Friend of mine has an 04 quadcab, his brother has a 04.5 quadcab, and his dad has a 98 extended cab, all manual and all white haha.

My nephew had a 2000 Cummins with an auto - the tranny crapped out on him twice. Too bad, it got 29 mpg on the highway cruising at 60. He got rid of it and found a 2008 F-350 with a 6.4 and a manual, it stuck in regen and cooked the DPF. He's in California, he couldn't delete it. Got rid of it too, now he and his wife are sharing her Golf TDI till he can get a bunch of bills paid off.

I distinctly remember someone telling that story before, and it comes to mind all the time, didn't know it was your nephew though. Ya gotta love that commie state and that damn emissions equipment. I remember thinking (or saying) that he should've just dropped the cash on the tranny and whatever else that Dodge needed, even though it was old and had such high mileage.

It was the second one though.

7grand for a tranny would buy u a pretty good tranny that would handle almost anything u can throw at it, local diesel performance shop sells a "BD Heavy Duty Performance Transmission" for 5871.00 then you get a 2g core on your old one so 3871...sky is the limit on trannys though a ATS stage 6 for a 99-03 7.3 is a bit over 8g, that would be for a truck with big amounts of power though.
