I am talking about trading in my '99 F150 SC 4x4 Larait for an F250 SC. I heard that for the 02 the capacities went way up. I know they would want to be getting rid of the 01's though... I am looking at the diesel, 4x4, xlt, sc. He won't give me a $ on my truck, but his "wholesale" guy is coming in this afternoon and I could drop by. I have 72,000 on the '99. I already have the x-plan, I would just need to get a decent trade in number and then hope they will finance me. Any suggestions on the 01 or 02? Help with gettting a better trade in? I've modified my truck and I still don't have th custom skid plate so the front looks bad. I also was rear-ended labor day and I haven't had that fixed yet. (the check came yesterday!) Thanks for the help.

 

Seeing as how I'm biased towards the PSD, I think you're making an excellent decision to upgrade your F150
The best way to get the most for your money (and not just pay it out to the dealer) is to sell your F150 yourself and then use that money as part of your down payment. You will need to get the repairs done on it first and have all of the maintence receipts ready to show the potential buyer. The dealer is gonna give you the least amount he can for a trade in so he can make the most from it when he resells it.
As far as 01 vs 02, there are a few upgrades in the 02 that the 01 doesn't have, like maybe gauges, adjustable pedels, those nice looking headlights (I'm not sure about what differences there are in engine performance) check out the diesel board for that www.ford-diesel.com I'd say to price out the 01 vs the 02 and then weigh your decisions. Course you'd probably be ordering the 02 and getting "exactly" what you want vs taking an 01 right off the lot.
Have you looked at the Crew Cab vs the SC?? Lots more room!!!
And don't overlook the F350, lots more potential with this truck.

 

It must be nice to upgrade from a F150 to a F250 I hope I can do the same some day but for now my F150 is going to do. As far as the 01 vs. the 02 the only changes I know of are the cool headlights and some interior stuff if you can get a great deal on a 01 take it other wise go with a 02.

 

Trust me, I looked at the F350's! More like drooled at them. The dealer said something about the gross vehicle weight jumped from 10000 to 12000 from 01 to 02. My fiancee is kinda raining on my parade right now though. I bought her uncle's snowmobile without her knowing and that pushed some buttons. Also she wants to start looking for houses. I say we can do both!

long bed w/orp
I would have liked a diesel but it's 4,700 more
the new ones a 1,000 heavier so it's not as peppy as the old one
and the ride is ruffer
but it was worth it,
As far as getting a 2001 the difference was less then a 1,000
and I'd loose that as soon as it left the dealers lot
the 2002 have clear corners up front w/jeweled head lights
a trans temp gauge, newer seats
the coolent is now the yellow 100,000 life stuff
and the front axle is a dana 60 instead of a dane 50
and the intrest rates are great right now
