super duty

I have heard all the debate about the powerstroke and the V10. I dont care about cost, mpg, maintanence, towing, etc. All I want to know is if we have 2 SD's one powerstroke and the other V10, which one is quicker off the line or in the 1/4 mile? Which one has the best passing power say 60 to 75? Lastly, which one can be modified for the most power the easiest and the cheapest?
Thanks,
Chad

To answer your questions in order..
1. quicker: V10
2. 1/4 mile: V10
3. passing power: V10 (unless your towing big)
4. modifed easiest: tie or V10(you can get a chip for both, but then there seems to be more aftermarket stuff available for V10.
5. modified cheapest: V10 PSD cost an extra 4k to beging with, and it is generally more expensive to have work done on diesels..

It sounds like your looking for a race truck.. V10 + 4.30 gears is what you want if your getting a SuperDuty..

Actually, I think #4 & #5 go to the PSD as long as you ignore the up-front cost of the engine.

However, for a "race" truck, the V10 w/4.30 gears would be my choice in a 2WD regular-cab short-bed truck.

PSD chips cost about the same as a V10 chip. The PSD chips add a ton of power and have many different power levels and you don't have to buy any special fuel. Basicly if you spend the same $$ modding a PSD and V10 (exhaust and chip) the PSD will turn into a monster! It will even get better fuel economy doing it!

I have too agree with V10MAN,
If you spend the money on a V10 for a chip and exhaust you have to run premium fuel.
As where a chip and exhaust on a PSD=lotsa power!!

And if you were to opt for a supercharger for your V10, You could go with a chip, exhaust, ram air, and propane for the PSD for about the same price, and LOOK OUT!!!! That PSD then will blow the doors clean off the V10.

Just a thought from a Ford Master Tech.

I say both would be very fast monsters on the road with all the right mods.

It doesn't sound like too many PSD's talking here....

I am pro-diesel and have a modified one....

the mods are dirt cheap on the diesel and add tremendous power..

Here's a brief history of the PSD---is really a medium duty diesel(20k to 40klbs)..DETUNED, and shoehorned into a pick-up truck..

Detuned down to 235hp and 500ft lbs.--for roughly 2k-3k you can double these numbers and bring it into the 12 second range..

A 7000 lb truck running 12 sec....and still getting close to 20mpg, and able to tow 20k lbs.....

it gets 400000 miles before overhaul...

For about $100 dollars you can add 70 hp and 100 ft lbs of torque...

And I would have to say that from 55- 80 this is one of the fastest if not the fastest trucks...

The diesel is the way to go...you wont be unhappy...

Post Diesel vs. GAS

I have had both diesels and gas. Sure the PSD is going to cost you another $4K to start with, but you will get it back at trade in time, believe me, I know as to what I say.
Other than the original cost, I think that the PSD is capable of MUCH more power. Up to 600 HP at the present. Not to mention that next years PSD will be smaller, better, quieter, and more HP. Also the F150 will have an optional 4.5L V6 diesel that is comparable to todays 7.3
That and 20 MPG. What more could you want?

Chips, exhaust, intake, and if that ain't enough...Propane...But before you do any of these, do the guages and then the transmission first...
