New truck

My dad is looking to buy a used F250, but he is a little weary of the gas milage. He wants the truck to pull a 6500lb camper.
I was wondering if you guys could help me convince him a little. Could you give me some info on the diesels milage when pulling this type of load?

Thanks

Mine usually gets around 10-11 pulling a 8 thousand pound 32 foot cattle trailer. But I have some mods ie a Hypertech programmer, banks exhaust and a K&N. He should get around 9 or 10 pulling stock as long as its not over the Alps or something.

My dad has a '00 250 with the Diesel and he has a couple of options on there that you might not have. For one he has the Propane injection from Diesel Performance Products and that helps a lot on the towing of heavy loads. We towed a boat about that size from Punta Gorda Florida to Key West without the propane and we got about 13 mpg on a 3-4 hour tow

I'd go with a diesel if I had the cash. I've got a friend with a F350 Dually Ext Cab diesel 6 spd. Pulling a 12k triple car carrier gets 15-16 running 80 up and down the interstate. He had a V10 before, with the 5spd and got 9-10 also running 80. The V10 pulled it just fine, but the milage was killing him. Hell, just driving his truck for 2 weeks unloaded, I was getting 19-21 depending if I kept it at 80 or 100.
