01-02 Tow Ratings
I ran my 2k F150/Travel trailer over the scales last weekend and to my dismay found myself about 500lbs overweight. As a result with safety in mind I started shopping the local dealers upon returning. I ended up with a 2001 F250 SC LB V-10 w/4.30 gears due to price incentives and lower finance rates over the 2002's. Scanning through all the information I could find I noticed the 01 is rated to tow 10k lbs while the 02 is rated at 12.5k lbs. Looking thru options I noticed the 01 comes with a class IV hitch while the 02 has a class V. Does anyone know if the hitch is the only thing giving the newer model the higher rating or possibly direct me to where I may find that information?
Thanks, Ron

Best research info
The following links should provide you with the info you need on our trucks.

2002 Ford F-250/350 Super Duty Pickup
I use this often. This only discrepency I have found is on the 2002 4x4 front axle. This source shows the 2002 F-250 as having a Dana 50 up front; however, the actual physical axle is a Dana 60 ...

Not all '01s the same
In Dec '99 or Jan '01, Ford changed the 2001 model-year specifications from 10,000# to 12,500# to match/beat GM's numbers. The "2001½" model rating is just like the 2002's.
I have a few questions about the 2002 e-Sourcebook info. I'm really not sure that the spring/payload information is accurate. It looks to me like they gave all the SRW models the F350 specifications. Better check the F250s on the lot to be sure they can really handle the load.

Thanks again to all of you. Looks like the biggest difference between the two years is the class IV (10k hitch) on the 2001 and the class V (12.5k hitch) for 2002. With my wife being the primary driver at 12 miles per day (me in the econo box at 30mpg) the diesel nnumbers didn't quite work out for us and my V10 shouldn't get much worse mileage than my overloadedF150 5.4L/3.55's. Now I just need to get some break in miles so we can start towing. Our deserts have cooled off and the winter camping season is here.
Real glad this board has a broad range of forums and again my Thanks,
Ron
