7 Lug?

I've wondered this for a while and now i have to ask. Why did Ford go to a 7 lug on my 2001 F250 Superduty? I thought 8 lug was the standard norm when it came to the heavy duty equipment. Do the F350s have this? I noticed my friend has 7 lug on his 1999 LD F250. I can accept it on his truck, but on my SD?
Just curious, thanks for your replies.

I've got a '00 F-250 SD S/C 4x4 and it's got the 8 lug wheels on it. The only time that I've seen the 7 lug wheels on an F-250 was on the LD models, never on a SD though.

thewhiteford,

Do you have plastic wheel covers or real wheels. They look like my friends dads 1996 F-250 which has 8 lug wheels but the plastic covers only show seven fake lug nuts.

Thanks,

PS if they are plastic covers, Let me know. I have a set of 2002 Chromed steel XLT Wheels off my 2002 SD with tires with less than 30 miles on them. I have them in the classifides ad# 11862.

Yup- pop the hubcaps & you'll find 8 lugs.

Phil,

I wanted to ask you a question. I've seen those wheels on a few trucks and wondered about something. It looks to me that the chrome part is a thin layer that is pressed over the wheel. Is that right or is it actual chrome on the wheel. Thanks.

V10 man,

Yes it is a Chrome piece fairly thick except at the very center where the lugs are. It is either pressed or which I think it is spot welded onto the wheel.

Know of anyone who nees a set of 4 with caps, less than 30 miles on them.

Thanks.

One of life's little ironies, here. Yesterday, my right front tire went flat. I got to a jobsite and heard a loud hissing sound. Looks like there was a pretty large nail because I could see where the head was on the tread. And it managed to go through the entire tread.
Well I remembered this post and pulled the hubcap to reveal that but-ugly rim with 8 big ol' lugs. Just goes to show how important this site is. Thanks a million, guys.
