Boost is not any good without the xtra fuel to serve the purpose...

17-20 will feed up to 400hp...There is no reason to up the boost, unless u r goin to have a serious ride...I can override the wastegate and get close to thirty..But why should I?? It will get better performance with the lower boost levels...While the turbo is spooling up you need the fuel to go with it, or you are going to create a lean condition..Plus the stock tubos are worthless over about 25psi...turbo surge to deal with and decreased life as well

And to answer your question--I know people that are pushing 54psi..This is with aftermarket turbo and wastegate modification
This person is over 600hp...

thanks mach1 im well aware of what a lean condition is i was only curious to see what others were putting out since i thought 16 seemed kinda high for a stock setup. i run my lincoln very rich just to be on the safe side. sure it runs slower when its rich but im happy with 11.40@120mph in a car that weighs 4000 lbs

Sorry-about the lean condition, I just didn't know where you where mechanically...Alot of people dont understand the theories..They still think bigger is better!!

16 psi is just dandy for your truck...I believe 17psi is the magic stock number...

Just for grins and not to be a show off, some of the trucks in the club are closeing in on 11's...I have seen low 12's and thats not too shaby for a 8000 lb truck...11's are right around the corner...

As a matter of fact the 54psi blew the head gasket at 1/8 mile and coasted through the rest of the way, turned a high 13...
If it would have not blown it would have been in the 11's I believe..1/4 mile times...

its no problem man i know how it is so how are you guys tweaking this extra boost? chips? or larger turbos? this is my first diesel and from my understanding since there is no throttle body there is no waste gate to adjust? also how are you guys avoiding the lean condition bigger injectors? or a chip for that too? i have been looking at the banks power package for it but thats down the road i gotta finish one race car before i start throwing my time and money at the truck. the lincoln is gettin boring running 11s its back in the shop gettin a stroked motor (410ci) EVIL!!!!

You could write a paper on the boost deal...Ok yes, they are running the H2E turbo, which puts out hugh air, but takes forever to spool up...Kind of cancels out the theory...I can get 30+ out of the stock turbo...but you lose reliability...It all has to work together..More boost requires more fuel..the stock turbo will feed 450hp??? Its the fuel part you have to approach first...chip,exhaust and intake...These will get you about 400 and in the 14's...anymore then this and you get to spend major bucks for minimum return...They prefer the 99's used a smaller turbo then the late models...Smaller turbo=faster spool up and more fuel...

I know this is all basic turbo 101 for you, so it is for anyone else who is reading...

I like to feed mine propane instead of #2 because it burns cleaner..

There is a wastegate that you can adjust/modify to get more boost, then you would probably ever need...Feeding it fuel is the downfall...Hot chips and injectors are the buzz words..

The stock split shots will get you up to 400hp...And then more if you run propane and/or nitrous...By this time you should have done serious trans work, if auto then you should have installed a complete trans by now...The other parts in the driveline are starting to fail by this point, You are going though tires like they were paychecks, So I would spend the money on other things if I am here...But I would not buy a bigger turbo or injectors, Have 400 hp reliability and been satisfied at this level, because it would cost a lot to any further...Oh by the way, you should be in the low 14's...Not bad for a 7000lb truck...

Mach1,

BIGANT has a '96 PSD. No splitshots, bigger turbo with no wastegate, and no intercooler. Also the '96 has a flow through fuel system.

I have not seen any stock splitshots get 400 hp (at the wheels) without the aid of drugs. That's cool.

Untill he does injectors he won't get much over 300 hp even with drugs with the older style injectors.

My '97 would get about 24 to 26 # boost with exhaust mods, open K&N filter, chip and intercooler. With propane it was 30 to 32 #'s boost. With stage II injectors and propane it would peg a 40 # gauge (with stock turbo). Added a small shot of NOS and blew a head gasket on a 14.01 @ 102 mph 1/4 pass.

Yeah, I just saw his picture, he has no sig line...I was talking 99-up..Yes the guys are getting 400hp from the split shots..but this is it...you have to have the other mods as well...yeah--turbos different...no intercooler..Intake manifold different as well...computer...different return system...etc...

Sounds like yours would haul...14 flat is moving...

Do you still have yours???

Yes, still have it. Getting the heads c-ringed now. Should be in the 13's no problem. Was headed that way when the gasket blew. Been down for a month now. Should have it back on the road within the next two weeks.
I miss it. It gets better MPG than my '01 reg cab F150 V6, and it's a whole lot more fun to drive.
