Question Larger Tires on 250-SD

Folks,

I'm just about ready to put on my first new set of tires on my 2000, 250SD. I plan on going to a Yoko Geolander 285/75/16 on my stock rims, and I'm looking for some feedback whether anyone has gone to this size tire on a stock truck (no lift) and had any problem with clearance. I have the original 235/85's now and they look tiny in the wheel wells. I know I'm giving up one size load rating (E to D), but I don't haul anything of significant weight anyway - I tow a fairly light travel trailer (~5000#). Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

You should have no problem fitting that size. Plenty of people go up to that size. Actually you are gaining load capacity not loosing. The 235's are 3042 pounds I believe and the 285's are 3300 pounds or so. You may want to get your speedo recalabrated.

I would like to add to this post, first i know a couple people that run 305/70 16s with no lift and stock rims. I am considering some 315/75 16s does anyone know if they will fit with no lift and no rubbing.

You already have your answer, but thought I would chime in anyhow. I have 285s on my stock rims with no lift - no problems whatsoever.

i just put on b.f.g 285/75/16 on my 02 s.d f250 with leveling kit for plow installation, they fit easily, was wondering if a 35" tire would fit since the 285s are 33" tall and at 50 mph the speedo is 1 mph off and 2 at 65mph,got to love those s.d

Folks,

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like 285's are no problem - I'd like to go to 305's, but I don't want to invest in new rims

Another member indicated that he regularly puts 305s on stock rims on stock height SDS. I don't recall him mentioning any rubbing. You might do a search in this forum for posts by MartyB and see if you can turn anything up.

Hmmm. I thought I was pushing it by putting 285's on the stock 7" rims - minimum recommended is 7.5".... 305's on the stock rims seems a bit much.

BFT- minimum rubish...On the front one side only...minimum though, and I have heard that some trucks dont rub...I believe it has to do with full turn lock and bounce....

I wouldn't put anything wider then 285/75 on the stock rims, although alot of people do it...And then they go to a 8" which doesn't buy much..

If it was me and 4X4..16 or 17" with 10" wide, proper offset and some lift...

But then I like to do things right...

OPINIONS...
