Sounds to me like your hard drive is going bad, but they can come from the factory with a small percentage of bad clusters. I mean when you buy a hard drive you are not gonna get exactly as much as you buy. I mean I got an 80 gig hd and i got 74.52 gigs. You can pickup a hard drive for about 100 dollars. Also after a hard drive gets a pretty good bit of age on it the plastic bearing will go out in it. Run scandisk and see how many bad clusters you have. I wouldn't go out and buy a whole new system because the hard drive wares out. As for Norton and all that scandisk works just as good.

I deleted something called Aenthology Manager in my icons window and then the Norton Disk Doctor finally started working again. Seems this Anthology Manager is this program that invited itself onto my computer. It is supposed to be a virus protection program, and pop-up blocker that will rid your computer of viruses and pop-ups for $15.95. It was this program(ANTHOLOGY MANAGER) that kept popping up on my computer saying that my "computer" was infected with a virus! Well, the funny thing is that as soon as I deleted this program(Anthology Manager) from my computer, the pop ups saying that my computer is infected has mysteriously stopped! And Norton Disk Doctor ran flawlessly. Now my computer is working ok again. And I think the virus is gone. My personal belief is that Anthology Manager mysteriously appears on people's computers, and shoots a virus into their system. Then tries to sell you a program to cure the virus for $15.95!!! What a scam! Bunch of Son a' Bitches!

After a quick search for 'Anthology Manger' on google, I have yielded nothing that resembles a program.

Are you sure it wasn't a virus?

It was a virus caused by something called Anthology Manager. That's what it's called, "Anthology Manager." I heard rumor over the 4th of July weekend, that some people(morons) were planning to hack other peoples computers. Anyways, if it was a hacker, they FAILED!!!

Got some advise. Go to the add remove programs in the control panel and delete all that norton and anthology junk. If you watch what you download you want ever get a virus.

I already did it. But there are a few more things I'm going to delete too. Someone told me that WinMX site was a virus magnet too. What else is also bad for viruses?

Watch what you download off kazaa. Make sure that when ever you download a text document or jpg it does not have the .exe extension at the end. Example (Picturename.jpg.exe) Alot of times they will make the icon the picture for a jpg file and when you click it the virus will run. Most things you download are not viruses. I never run a virus scan on my computers at home in my life and have had only a few minor viruses. One corrupted the webaddress bar on Aohell. Check your msconfig everyonce in a while and if you see program that can be turned in the startup tab. That will make your computer not have to load all those program when it starts up. Such as Kazaa. Also looks at the programs that load in the startup. If you see anything suspious then do a search on google and see what the program does. It could be a virus. That pretty much as safe as it gets.

KAZAA is ultra bad about that however; it's kind of a risk you take to mooch files I suppose.

Here's a site that is pretty helpful that has bailed my **** out a few times...

www.trendmicro.com

You can perform a full virus search online for free. Plus, it will typically quarantine and/or delete the virus off of your computer. The site is ultra helpful on removing some of the pesky crap that you can pick up along the way while surfing as well.

Check it out.

First fill your tub up with water, place your pc in it and then turn it on. This will hydrate the bearings on the hard drive and make them run faster....

Seriously it sounds like the cache on your harddrive went out.
