Recall on Wife's Taurus for Air Filter
I just got a letter from Ford stating there is a safety recall on certain 2003 Taurus and Sable vehicles. The recall is:
"Under certain condidtions, engine backflow events may allow transport of hot carbon or metallic debris to theair filter on your vehicle. This may ignite the air filter element, with the potential for air inducation system dmage and/or an underhood fire...
Ford Motor Company and your dealer will replace the air filter element on your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor) with an air filter element that incorprates filter media that is not suscptible to this condition..."
OK, fine - but what about when that filter gets dirty and needs replaced? Does this mean that I'm going to have to buy special Motorcraft filters from the dealer instead of Frams from parts America? It sounds to me like there is a deeper issue that needs to be addressed instead of replacing the air filter!
