Any writers in here?

Just curious. I've never had any real big dreams, but I've always wanted to be a writer, but since college I haven't really done anything to keep it alive... I used to write a lot of short stories (most of which I don't even have anymore ), and poetry... I even had a couple poems published in those books where if you buy one you're pretty much guaranteed a spot in the book. Not the biggest honor, but I at least am able to say I'm a published poet... ... I've always wanted to write a novel though, and I've had several ideas, and I'm always thinking to my self that a certain situation I'm in would go good in a book, or maybe just change this or that and embelish and you've got a few pages, but it never goes any further... I've started a few, but then quit...

So, anyone here write? Poetry, novels, columns, book reports...?

Oh, yeah... my other two dreams are to finish my Belvedere, and make a trip from coast to coast (including Route 66), and to be able to play like SRV...

hmm... it seems like I started this thread once before... either I'm finding that I still can't finish anything or I'm just about as tired as I thought I was...

Try again. Start it and when you get to a point where you're stuck put it aside and come back to it later. Unless you're working with an editors deadline you have no time limit. Even if it takes you years at least you could say "I wrote that". Good luck!!

Wasn't Belvidere one of King Arthur's knights of the round table?
Also means a high point or lookout.

I guess since I live in Belvidere Mills, MN, I have checked it out.

And Belvidere Vodka is pretty decent stuff. Also an opera called, "Belvidere."

Sled...
The same place the Windsor engine got its name...

So, just thought it was time for an update. It's been a little over a year now, and um... Well, the Belvedere's going to the body shop in a few weeks, but I still can't play like SRV, and well, I wrote a few lines to a poem that would IMHO make a great title for the collection of poetry I'll probably never publish...

So, to continue... I'll be going back to the job I hate tomorrow, because I can't seem to find anything else that I can do and be happy, so I figure might as well be unhappy with a paycheck... right?

later...

Hey Closer, if you are an SRV guy maybe you have heard of Freddie King. He is one of my favorites along with SRV.

One of my clients is a writer . i asked him what helps to get published. He offered one comment. Get a good looking manager.

By his response I bet he gets asked that question a million times.

I'm a freelance writer and have wrote several articles for a syndicated publishers service that were published in several newspapers nation wide. Wrote for local publishing company for a while that owned 10 newspapers in surrounding towns. I've got 2 novels now that are atleast 2 years in the making and niether one is over 100 pages yet. Well they might be when droped down to novel page sizes... I have wrote several short stories and published them on the web myself. Also wrote a few short stories, had them printed and bound myself out of my pocket, then charities sold them locally for the profits to benefit the individule charity. Done that a few times. Maybe one day I'll have time and inspiration to finish one of the bigger novels and can get them published by a bigger publisher that can afford to print a few million of them and then distribute them to book stores for me.

Edited to add:
Before I got into print publishing I was an ad copy writer for a local radio station. I wrote the scripts or jingles of the commercials for thier customers. That was actually alot of fun. I like marketing wether in print or broadcast a lot better than creative undirected writing and both of them much much better than reporting.

I'm a director at an ad agency. Since I left college way back when, I've only worked for OEM automakers, for their ad agencies. I've worked at several different agencies over the years, on a variety of projects.

Mostly technical copywriting for car company brochures and websites, but also some ad copy though these days I mostly tweek what the copywriters have already written. And a lot of internal stuff that doesn't get to the public.

Accounts I've worked on include Toyota/Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti and Hyundai.

Been to Japan several times to work with engineers on cars.

Most fun: Worked on the Infiniti G35 & FX35/FX45 launches, got to spend about 4 weeks in Japan at Infiniti's test track, engineering facilities and corporate headquarters.

Writing is fun.
You'd be surprised how many people can't write a memo.

We need to talk...
Seriously, I hate my current job! (This job is not my career, my career got side tracked about a year ago) There is little to no creativity for me here and after having the creative freedom of my last two jobs. I am going crazy! Seriously if you could get my foot in the door for an auto maker or even a boat maker Ad Agency as a designer or copyrighter...
I would quit my full time job now, quit freelancing (if I had to), and relocate!
Out of courtesy I will wait for consent before I e-mail you my phone number so you could call at your convenience, or you may e-mail yours to me with the best time to reach you and I'll be happy to call you on my dime.
I’m sure my creativity and ability to make creativeness a reality plus my experience in Visual communications design, layout, editing, publishing including a variety of printed products lay out and design could be a benefit. Not to mention my experience in radio broadcast copy writing. Plus have real world experience doing a few NTSC/PAL presentations for meetings, product shows, and for broadcasting over the air.

PLEASE take the time to see if you can help a struggling artist out. I'm sure we could come to an agreement that would be equally beneficial to both parties involved.
