I got a new job!

I got a new job!
Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later.
I was offered and accepted a job with the Fire Department. My official start date is January 18th (the day after MLK Jr. Day), which is kinda cool, because I actually get paid for the 17th, but don't have to work. I guess that's another chapter for my book?!
The only bad thing is that I had to cancel my portion of my family's yearly ski trip, and it's non-refundable (except the airline ticket...which I'll have to pay $100 for a transfer date when I redeem it). I hate that I have to miss it, but I wasn't expecting this to be a smooth process.
November 11th was my last day at my last job, so I am considering myself fortunate. I have 2 other things lined up that I may do on the side, depending on the circumstances.
Anyway, I am FIRED UP (no pun intended) about the job. 98 people applied, interviewed, took the written and agility test, and only 8 were offered jobs. I feel pretty lucky, as I have had NO training, and knew NOBODY on the inside to help out.
I'll follow up with yall later and let you know how things are going.
Beers for me (too bad there are no Jack Daniels on the rocks toaster smilie things!!!)
And a nanner for the job!

Re: I got a new job!
Awesome!!!
Too bad about the family trip, but I'll bet its a load off to have a job lined up.
Oh no, remember what happened last time JD was involved...wasn't there something about running around the neighborhood in the nude??...

Hey Tuff, congrats on the new job. Having worked in a refinery for several years now, I have a HUGE respect for firefighters. A very honorable job. I remember reading about you having so much "fun" testing for the fireman job a few weeks back. Also it would appear that we have a prophet amongst us.....lees99f150 predicted that you would get a job in 2005! Again, congradulations and enjoy your remaining time off...

Forsyth County Georgia. It's the next county over from mine. One of the fastest growing in our state. Not THE fastest, but we're growing out this way, and that county has the most undeveloped land of any of the 4 out here.
I don't know which station I'll be at yet, and probably won't until after training.
I really can't wait. It was pretty cool getting fitted up for all of the gear...I couldn't stop smiling. I am sure I looked like a 4 year old on Christmas morning.
Oh, and mtn-rose, JD had EVERYTHING to do with that night.

TUFF-FORD,
I am certainly not an avid poster as evident by my join date and number of posts, but I read the boards very day and often throughout the day.
Had a few conversations with you regarding the FD and what to expect, I have also read of some of your crazy adventures, LOL.
First let me say this, WELCOME TO THE BROTHERHOOD, you will become more familair with that term and why it is so important in your weeks at the academy, I know I sure did. You will make more friends and more importantly, you will make them "family", in the truest sense of the word.
You will join the academy with total strangers, yet in a few short weeks you will be putting your life in their hands every time the alarm sounds.
You will eat, sleep, fight, laugh and cry with these folks, you are truly embarking on a life journey like no other.
This is far more than a "job", its a career...its a calling, not all are fit for it. I see you as a fighter and someone to get the job done and I am sure you will succeed.
As I am sure you know, many applied and did not get the job, this happens every day all over the country, respect those people by doing your very best and making your service in the FD worth it.
Once again, welcome brother, I am proud to call you my brother.
Please post pics of your progress through the academy, id like to see what kinda apparatus you guys have down there!
Be safe, and a common saying, one that applies not only to you and your new job, but that in the relentless pursuit of the fairer sex....
"Find 'em hot and leave 'em wet!"
Atta boy Tuff, congrats...
Your brother,
