OK...this is insane...the "buzz" or "shock" went away.

~ANYWAY~ I got the computer back up and running (sorda).

But now, I am back to square F%#!ing 1.

It will run for a few minutes and freeze up. It isn't rebooting or giving me a blue screen (yet). It just freezes, or sometimes the screen goes black.

On my first boot, Windows installed the drivers (USB, sound card, RAID, ask to reboot, and now it freezes on the exact same spot when booting. On the WINDOWS XP screen (the one with the "cute" lil bar showing loading) the loading bar gets to the 7th pass and stops right there. I cant even boot by CD.

W.T.F^^ mate?

So now I'm thinkind Hard Drive, or Processor.

Someone wanna save me money and point me in the right direction? Processor? Hard Drive? or What?

DZ may have been correct with the overheating.

Go into your BIOS and find out how hot your CPU is running.
Generally speaking CPUs dont just up and die.

Yep I have to concur it sounds like processor over heating. The heat sink is still attached completely correct? Can you borrow a processor from someone?

What processor is it? If I have an extra I might be able to lend it to you for testing if you cant find a local one to borrow.

Done ! ! !

This is my very first post with my now

FIX PC ! ! !

1. I put in an old hard drive and did a clean install of windows.

2. I slaved my old drive (where I think the problem was).

3. I copied all the stuff I didnt want to loose to my freshly formatted drive.

4. Formatted the other drive for space.

5. Processor temp is 74° F. Checked AMD's website, and it is way below what AMD says. (90°C is critical)

I have installed all my Norton updates. I have installed all my Windows updates. I have finished setting up my network.

The machine has been running good, no lock-ups (IN YOUR FACE DZERVIT ), No hang-ups, 1 MS error report dilly whoppie (before updates), everything is great....except, I have no friggin sound ! ! !

All in All I thank you guys for hangin in there and helpin me out. It's nice to know I can find help somewhere.

It was probably a driver issue.
As much new components you have been installing, a fresh install may not have been a bad idea anyway.

Also, it probably was 74C, not 74F. 74C is VERY low, I dont think AMD (or Intel) has made any RECENT procs that ran that cool

74 degree Fahrenheit = 23.3333333 degree Celsius

74 degree Celsius = 165.2 degree Fahrenheit

AMD's recomendation of 90°C being the critical point.

90 degree Celsius = 194 degree Fahrenheit
or
90 degree Celsius = 653.67 degree Rankine
or
90 degree Celsius = 72 degree Reaumur
or
90 degree Celsius = 363.15 kelvin

If you ever wanted to know...

my friend johnnys got a whole new system built for em few weeks ago his max load tem is 89 F but the heatsink i got for em is one of the top on the market and his computer is like 19db barely noticable performs well but those 64 bit chips run really cool. but also their flat tops... im still curious why AMD used a small core design hurt the cooling so much
