Need some computer help
#16
Thanks to all of you for the input.
I have been guilty of not emptying the file folder for some time and will try this first on all my computers.
However, it may be something else as well.
On this PC in my store, my backup PC at home, my wife's home office PC and my Laptop I get the original choice of file extensions, jpeg and bitmap. They all use the supplied photo imaging program that came with the PC, ie Dell's program, HP's program etc.
On the PC in question, I have something called "Picture Viewer" which is in addition to the Gateway program or the AOL program. I don't remember installing that program but I must have and it appears to be the default imaging program right now. When I get home tonight, I will try to do the cache emptying thing first and then I will try uninstalling "Picture Viewer" and see if that solves the problem.
Then, I will try to convert the two dpozen or so photos that are now saved as bitmat files back to jpeg files so I can send them over the web in the proper size.
I will let you know.
Thanks again.
Bill

Bill,
I had the same thing happening last week.
If I tried to save pictures by rightclicking there was no other alternative but a .bmp extension.
I could not choose the .jpg extension.
Very annoying.
The problem is fixed now but I don't know what I did.
Try to save in a different folder and see if that helps.
BTW
I have two movieclips of the local liberation tour on May 5th when the dutch celebrated 60 years of freedom.
I will email the links to you soon.

3. go to the "file type" tab

5. the "change" button will highlights then you can change the application association back to whatever application you were using.
Is sounds as if you may have a few different application that can view images.
If I'm wrong than I'm sure someone else will chime in.......

In your imageviewer, disable the jpg. setting and enable it again.
You may say this has only to do with opening a file not saving but this worked for me.

Yahooo!!
Well, it turned out the simplest fix was "the fix".
You will remember that my PC was overwhelmed with spam in January, which I reported here, and I hired a specialist to clean up all the PCs in the house and install a bunch of anti anti software etc.
As part of that process, she put a lot of things in different places and, like so many PC experts, hid all kinds of icons on the screen as she felt it looked "sloppy". Included in that were all of the cleanup functions etc. I only have about 3 icons on the screen and have to call up the rest.
So, out of sight out of mind and I had not dumped my temporary file cache since late Jan.
To add to the PC's burden, my wife has been with her parents in AZ for 3 1/2 months out of the last 4 1/2 due to their health problems. Up until the good weather arrived about 3 weeks ago, virtually all of the time I am at home I am on the PC. Bored out of my skull and nothing else to do but surf and correspond.
Needless to say, it took almost 5 minutes to clear out the temp files, probably 20 times longer than when I used to do it once a week. A lesson well learned and of course I have printed off the other ideasa in case something else happens.
I thank all of you for taking pity on this old computer hack.
So, CJ, the city council purchased your flower growing business to build a road as I recall. Did this allow you to retire or have you a new business venture? And, of course, do you still have your F150?
Cheers

I only grew vegetables, no flowers though.
It didn't allow me to retire, I am bit too young for that.
I am not starting a new business, looking for a 9 to 5 job.
Yes I keep the truck although new government regulation as of July 1st will make owning a truck privatly a bit more expensive.
Roadtaxes will increase a lot for me.
No refund of the 19% salestax on fuel I am afraid either.
BTW She turned 6 two days ago.
Time really flies.
