Another Reason I despise the NBA...
Ok, all this was precipitated by the new "business casual" dress code the NBA implemented. I was reading an article regarding claims of it being racially targeted when I discovered this little tidbit from Philly's resident genius and all around good guy (HEAVY sarcasm) Allen Iverson.
Yeah right, the league needs to fork over more money to Iverson...
He is right though, a dress code won't help a league full of idiots like him.
Disclaimer: I tend to even agree (to an extent) that this dress code is targeted at all the bling bling, I wouldn't want to be told what to wear either but that above comment just gave me one more reason to hate the NBA. For multi-millions a year I would wear a freakin tux to bed every night. The link for the story is below

Philadelphia's Allen Iverson also was critical of the new rule, which the NBA made teams aware of in a memo Monday.
"I feel like if they want us to dress a certain way, they should pay for our clothes," he said. "It's just tough, man, knowing that all of a sudden you have to have a dress code out of nowhere. I don't think that's still going to help the image of the league at all."

did anyone see charles barckley on jay leno last night? He was talking about this and he basically said that it would be a good thing. he said that because a bunch of african american young kids dress exactly like the nba stars, and if they dress like that they are less likely to get a job. he said he was "all for it". his point does make some sense, but i still think it is a stupid rule.

Personally, I hate baseball- but, I did watch the end of game 6 last night, just because I maintain a passing interest even in the sports that I could never, ever, bring myself to normally watch.
That said- there are proably a lot more millionaires in baseball than in the NBA. But, either way- for what those guys get paid, I'd wear a shirt & tie to bed everynight.
Multi-millionaires, and he thinks they should get a clothing allowance? Well, if they do- then it should come to them the way the Army gave us our clothing allowance. They took a %-age from your monthly pay, and gave it to you all at once on your anniversary check.
That way, you couldn't say- you had no money for clothes...
All the class the NBA had, left when Michael Jordan retired.

It sounds like the dress code was put in place in order to clean up the image of the league in the eyes of those that can actually afford to pay for a ticket and go to a game.
The league will soon realize that without the image, sales of NBA and team merchandise to the younger fans that want to dress like their idols will go down.
IMO, the end result will be...
By the start of next season, the dress code will be lifted and David Stern will realize that without the image, there are fewer Benjamins.

You can play that good role model music all you want. It doesn't have squat to do with role models. It's money, plain and simple greed. Some kid with the need to wear bling isn't going to stop because NBA players are forced to look like tall investment bankers, or mid-level managers in a Fortune 500 company. The kid will know it's just another attempt by authority to tell people what they can and can't wear and when to wear it. What the dress code policy might do is limit the mass exodus of 30 to 60 year olds that are turning to other sports venues for their viewing enjoyment.
It's money people, that's it, and that's all of it!
Ah, beat me to it Webmaster.

Most of the locals here really don't like him due to his involvement in the Race related Bowling Alley fight\Brawl he was in here in High School. I have tons more stories about him, but not the time.....I guess you get the message.
Oh, also, his Sister rolls around here in her BMW thinking she is the sh*t.......she's one ugly, large Bit@#......

Don't get me wrong- I'm not an Iverson fan by a long shot...
But, if you were a two-sport All-Star who was an ace basketball player, and as a QB- led your High School to if not one, but Two high School championships- I think we'd all be a little kocky.
Not to mention he is either related to or friends with Aaron Brooks and Michael Vick.
That's a serious talent pool, even if it's dipped from a bad gene pool.

Don't get me wrong, I for one am happy our dress code got relaxed. I can buy two weeks worth of clothes at Men's Warehouse for what I was paying for one tailored suit there. Not to mention the laundering...
But, as a manager- I understood the need to dress better than my employees. It doesn't matter to me either way; I just don't see anythign wrong with dressing it up a notch. If I could afford the clothes, You'd see me dressed better than Steve Harvey (On the Steve Harvey Show) on a daily basis.
