Attention UK Lightning Owners...

I was wondering if someone could help me with some information. I need some info on the general electrical field in england. Specifically, common practices, what electrical codes are used, what certifications are required. Even a website of some kind would help. My mother is english and I lived 8 years of my life in england while my father was in the US Airforce. I made a decision the other day that I want to move back to england. I have plenty of family and would defenitely bring the lightning! I will be receiving my journeyman electrical card in VA in april. I've been doing electrical work for just over 5 years as well. SO...any information would be useful. I know it's going to take time, but I miss england so much! Also, is the MOT a pain for a modded lightning? Thanx in advance fellas!

I am not sure what qualifications are required over here but i would think that you would have to re-train to get the right ones.Even electricians that have been doing it for a few years have to go back to collage when there is a new set of regulations brought out.Perhaps yer best bet is to look on the net to get some info, good luck.
As far as the truck gos and the MOT,you will need to alter the lights and add a rear fog light.Providing your aftermarket exhaust meets the decibell and emisions requirements everything else should be pretty straight forward.

What you will need is SVA - Single Vehicle Approval.
carried out at most VOSA testing stations.

You will need to carry out minor alterations to the electrics for lighting.
And a few other things

Have a word with Anthony Cohen at American Car Imports he may be able to carry out the works for you and arrange VOSA inspection.
I found him very helpfull and all their trucks are converted to a high standard.
No silly aftermarket side markers and poor fitting switches in dash, as I have seen on many imported trucks.

There web address is www.americancarimports.com
Telephone +44208 8889 4545

I can carry out the alterations for you but not untill next year as I must get my truck back on the road.

sorry, I don't know the specifics about working here as an electrician, but I do know that qualified tradesmen are in short supply due to lack of training programs in the UK

In relation to the MoT, I've found that most garages that do maintenance on US vehicles have a relationship with an MoT testing station. If you let them do a service then take your vehicle in for its MoT, it is more likely to pass on items (like unusual lights) than if you just took it in yourself (I hope this isn't too cryptic...)

Thanx for the replies guys! I'll do a bit of searching on the net and see what I can come up with. I'm not sure when I'll be looking to move...but hopefully within the next year or so. Then I can attend Lightning meets of a different kind!

Nice one matey.
Keep us posted in the UK then we can meet up maybe even get a Dyno Day arranged or RWYB at Shakespear County Raceway.
Meet locally then have a steady cruse up the M40 - Steady Cruse YEAH RIGHT you know the score last one there buys the breakfast. LOL

On the subject of Sparks (Electricians) check out NIC EIC which is the governing body for this field, try google and search you may find usefull contacts.

I have a buddy who runs a specialist fitting out company and he may be able to help, he is a qualified contractor so could be usefull.
