Required Listening
Given the past few music threads that have popped up, how's about another one? Given different genres of music, we know there's bands and artists that you just can't go without listening to. I listen to a lot of different music, so I'd have to sit down for a bit and think about who all I'd really consider required listening, but how 'bout y'all?
I can't think of country being country without Hank Sr. What would rock be without Zeppelin, the Stones, Hendrix, Dylan, and others? What would the '90s grunge thing be without Nirvana? I've only recently started to listen to more classical stuff, so I dunno who plays what roles there.
So what say you?

Classic Rock and the 80's Hair Bands [Love Sirius's Hair Nation!]
Van Halen
Gun's & Roses
Peter Frampton
Queen
Blue Oyster Cult
Def Leppard
Eric Clapton
Then throw in Jimmy Buffett [a confirmed Parrot Head!] and some Brahms, Wagner and Holst for the classical, and there is my Have to Haves'
Woof
Bowser
PS: Can't forget Miles Davis or the Dave Brubeck Quartet. [Now I can understand why my wife hates going anywhere with me when I control the radio!]

If I had to pick one album that will always be universally enjoyed, it would be Back in Black - AC/DC.
It would be hard to list evey single band, song, or album that has shaped my music tastes. I started off taking note of songs like Crocodile Rock, Brother Louie, Joy To The World, The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia, Black Betty, and American Pie. I always liked powerful music with a good hook, and Rock and Roll is chock full of songs that fit the bill.

AC/DC is perhaps one of the top 3 greatest groups ever. As for modern country, I'd like to say that Big & Rich and their Freak Parade are leading the way. Their motto is country music without predjudice (SP???). Their freak parade includes (But is not limited to) Gretchen Wilson, Cowboy Troy (the world's only 6'4" rapping cowboy), 2 Ft. Fred, Joe Nichols, and many more.

Well, I listen to just about anything, but like said before I really don't care for much rap or hip hop, but I won't rule them out...
I just picked up the new Korn the other day. Twisted Transistor is pretty good, but the rest of the CD is just "okay". Put it on and listen to it while working in the garage, but not something I'd throw in the CD player, and rush to a certain song...
I also got the new CD by HIM. Not too many people have heard of them. They kind goth rock meets pop. They play a few of their songs on Sirius Octane. The new single is called Rip out the wings of a butterfly. Haven't really paid attention to the lyrics, but the music, and his voice are almost mesmorizing. I'm going to have to check out some of their older stuff. I think their from and mostly known in Finland.
I've also been checking out, and looking for a CD by Conjure One. It's kinda like Enigma (one of my favorite bands. I can put any of their CD's on and listen straight through), or Dead Can Dance... I can't think of the guy that does the music, but he has pop chicks sing on it. Poe sings several songs with him, and there's even one by Shinead O'Conner (sp). I think the CD I'm looking for is self title, but he/they've got at least one other...

I lost the vibe for Korn after Follow the Leader. Issues was "okay," but that's about it.
I downloaded Wings of a Butterfly the other night, might have to pick up the whole CD now. I honestly didn't know who the hell they were until I caught a glimpse of them on MTV's Viva La Bam. Same goes for CKY, I've started listening to more of them lately.

It's short for "Camp Kill Yourself." A lot of their music was on Viva La Bam and Jackass.

I too will listen to just about anything. Rap is out, completely, can't stand it but most other genres are included in my library and it's hard to pick just a few that should be must haves.

i remember hearing the hoodoo gurus song 'i want you back' in the early 80's and i was blown away by it.
up until that time i was a big aerosmith/nugent/zeppelin fan, and i had no idea there was other rock music out there.
i knew i hated kansas/styx/frampton and boston when that was the stuff getting played on rock radio.
to this day i still think the gurus 'stoneage romeos' cd is one of the best rock albums ever made. its great guitar pop with a bite. their second album is 'mars needs guitars' which is another great start to finish cd.
finding this band opened up a whole new world of music to me that i never knew existed. i think this was right around the time the replacements came out with the 'tim' album. (another beauty).
one of the more recent cd's that i picked up and was pleasantly suprised by is death cab for cuties 'plans'. its not what i have been listening to recently but it nice and put together real well.
other albums/bands i remember being blown away by:
pearl jam '10' i remember waiting for that album to come our forever as pj was born from the ashes of mother love bone.
guns-n-roses appetitte album
system of a downs first release (all their releases are great)
white stripes, white blood cells (all their releases are great also)
the replacements 'tim' (this is money)
and the band cave-in's album jupiter.
the above are some of the few that jump out at me at the moment.
