it was always acting funny ever since I bought it, but I just decided to do something about it this time, glad I did though, that clunking noise always drove me nuts.

Man, I bet your dealer just LOVES you. If you listen closely you can probably hear him muttering "cha-ching" as you walk in the door

I'm sure that the dealer will offer you a "discount" on the parts AND labor for being such a good customer.

The clockspring in no shape or form can cause slop or clunking in the steering column. It's only an electrical connection between the steering wheel switches and airbag and the vehicle's harness. Nothing more, nothing less. Bearings in the upper and lower column housings and the steering column shafts are usually causes for clunk/pops in Exploders and Mountaineers.

Please, just stop and go away.

They probably put a $3 bearing in it and charged you for the more expensive clock spring. I have seen dealers replace the anti-rattle clip on brake pades and say there was a bad ball joint and charge a couple hundred for a 10 cent clip. You think this crap doesn't happen? I have seen people pay for a rebuilt engine to get rid of a sticky lifter only to pop the hood and find the grease still on bolts that need to be removed to get the engine out.

Are you ever going to remove the steering wheel to see just what they really replaced? I didn't think so, and neither does your dealer.

Go find another dealer. You have an 02 and that clearly requires a DIGITAL clock spring. If they didn't know that then the he|| with them.
