Anyone have any extra dog leashes?

I am the volunteer coordinator for MaxFund (www.maxfund.org), a local animal shelter in Denver. We are hard up for dog leashes but don't have the funds to go out and buy a bunch. Seems when people adopt a dog and forget a leash they've just been giving them one without charging them for it. If you have any lying around that you don't use anymore (preferably the type with a loop at the end for your arm so the dog can't rip the leash out of your arm without your hand going with it!) you can send them to me:

Thanks!

It would probably be better to set up a fund so you can purchase them yourself.. because of the cost of shipping... i'll cost just as much to ship as it does to buy.... i know here i can get them from the dollar store for some nice spring loaded ones.

I'm not paying shipping, I figured if anyone had any and wanted to spend $1 or so to ship them to me, it woudl help me out, if not, no biggie .
We have some BIG DOGS at this shelter and I wouldn't trust one of the $1 store leashes to the task. Many of these dogs don't quite know "heel" so they pull and pull and pull. LOL.

I'm not being smart but you can get them for like 2 bucks a piece...how many do you need...heck a 100 bucks would get you 50 or so.

Matt -

I think Country Duck is just saying to setup a Paypal account and people can send money if they want instead of paying to ship a leash they already have.

yeah, I dont think anyone would send money though . Appreciate the thought though.
Vader, we could probably use 150-200 leashes. Even at $2 a piece (which would be for cheap ones that wouldn't be comfortable and probably break quickly) that adds up to $400. When your operating at a shelter with a real low budget, that gets to be expensive.
My theory was to charge people who forgot to bring their own leashes, but generally they are happy to find the adoptive parents and so just give the leash in as a freebie if they forget one.

Well, it costs money to adopt the dog correct? It does around here, i think its pretty cheap though. Just raise the cost 3-4$ and use that to buy leashes.

A paypal account is exactly what i was referring to... if i was going to buy a 1 dollar leash and pay 2 dollars to ship.... i would rather just give you the 3 dollars and you can buy 3 leashes. And the dollar leashes work great.. i have a 75lb dog and they withstand his shoulder dislocating strenghth.

If anybody is familiar with Ernie from "ernies house of whoopass" (ehowa)

this is the way he gets funding for "pet donation projects"

Matt...I'm sure I have a couple extras at home. I will check today after work and if so, they're all yours. I'll let you know.

I dont care how much the shipping is. If I can help and animal, than it's worth it to me

I've got paypal if anyone really wants to donate cash, I just figured no one would want to donate money to the cause.
It's mattadams@rmftc.com
I think MaxFund also has a way to donate money to them directly through their website if you wanted to do that.
Don't worry, I'm trustworthy, I won't go spending the money on beer and strippers!

thanks to those who said they'd send in leashes! I'm sure the volunteers will appreciate it and in turn, the dogs will like it .
(FYI, I checked my local dollar store, no leashes, will check out a few others though)
