2005 Ford F-150 pickup cruise control switch burns down South Georgia home
Arson Investigators say the fire started in Culbreth's 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck. "It's kind of hard to sink in. You buy a new truck, what do you expect from it," said Jon Culbreth said. "Not this at all."
Nearly 4 million Ford Pickup trucks and SUVs have been recalled because of fires linked to the cruise control switch system, causing them to burst into flames. But that recall is for trucks made before 2003, when Ford changed the suspected switch.
But Investigators say for some reason this four-month-old truck burst into flames, hours after it was last driven. "That's just where he said it started at, and there wasn't anything else there to have burnt but that," Culbreth said.

Hey garebel,
Just where exactly does it say the Cruise Control was responsible for THIS fire?
I'll tell you. NOWHERE!
The 04s and up don't have that same CC system. For all we know, the guy could have caused this himself.
I won't rule out the possibility that something was wrong with the truck, but your thread title here is misleading. The cause of the fire is under investigation. To spin and sensationalize this is uncalled for until an exact cause is determined.

I don't think it was caused by the CC

” Fire Investigators say their Ford Pickup Truck, parked in their garage started the blaze.

Federal regulators are investigating the Ford recalled truck line, linked to dozens of fires and at least three deaths. The recall is the fifth largest in history.
NO reason to jump on this guy about linking this fire to the possibility of the substandard quality parts Ford uses. Read the article and you can see the “experts” believe the cruise control may be the prime suspect.
What else is Ford building into their vehicles so they burn up when no one is around? Hell of a way to sell more vehicles…

Again, Arson investigators say the truck started the fire.
Since the above passage is in the story there is NO reason NOT to suspect the cruise control.

If so, I can understand why this country is so fudged up!.
NO WHERE does it say the cruise control started this fire. NO WHERE!
You read it again, slower this time!

You people that INFER stuff into what you read is a big problem. Just read what was written, and stop making stuff up!
Have a nice day.

Mr. Kool Aid, nuf said right there… j/k
I don’t know if you’re drinking to much Kool Aid or just an anger person in search of hope but you always seem so hostile.
Read the article again, line by line, word for word, and its not to much of a jump to “speculate” that “perhaps” there is further issues with faulty components used in Ford vehicles.
In this case it very well could be another faulty cruise control design. It has the same M.O. bursting into flames hours after it was last driven. There is a repair for this faulty design which is to “unplug” the cruise control until further investigations either determine it was the cruise control or there is overwhelming evidence to preclude it was not the cruise control.
Sometimes reading requires the reader to “think” a little bit and come to their own “logical” conclusions. I know for many people it is hard to “think” on their own thus ruling out they will ever come to a “logical” conclusion and expect others to assist them if the need arises…
Loosen up Mr. Kool Aid perhaps drinking some wine will help you relax and enjoy life…

Another panic induced media frenzy.
It could have been a cigarette ash left on the seat.
They should said it started with the truck. Throwing in the 03 recall doesnt help at all.
The 03 is a COMPLETELY different truck than the 04+.
Isn't the cruise controll all handled by the computer on the 04+? The old fords that were not drive by wire had a motor that held the throttle cable in place.

Safety would dictate, as well as logic, that anything that has automatic control over the vehicle should “always” have a mechanical means to disconnect it. Cruise control should always have a mechanical means to be deactivated.
The emergency brake is a good example of a mechanical link. While many people confuse it for a “parking brake” it’s main purpose is to have a mechanical means to apply your brakes should you every have a failure with the hydraulic brake system.
I shudder to think Ford would put people’s lives at risk with a computer only system for cruise control. Then again, Ford does have vehicles that burst into flames due to the mechanical disconnect for the cruise control…
